Four years ago, I had the incredible opportunity to attend the ILAE Summer School on EEG and Epilepsy in Dianalund, Denmark. There, I visited one of Europe’s most renowned epilepsy clinics, a truly inspiring experience that solidified my decision: I would establish an Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Fortunately, I met a passionate (and a bit crazy!) neurosurgeon Fabrizio Mortola-Neurocirugía y Cirugía de Epilepsia who shared the same vision. Just two months later, we were already laying out the plan with the authorities at Hospital Country 2000.

Fast forward to today, and our EMU Clínica de Epilepsia Country 2000 is a reality. Last year, we decided to share our experience, hoping to guide and support others pursuing the same goal. Our recently published paper not only details our journey but also includes a practical roadmap for those looking to establish an EMU in similar resource-challenged settings.

I truly hope this work proves useful for colleagues facing similar challenges. Thanks to the great team we have built and for being part of this incredible journey Dra. Ilse Michelle Mora Fridha Villalpando and to the rest who don’t have a facebook account 😂
