María José Carrillo Quán has suffered burns due to a gas explosion with the presence of a flame. Her state of health is critical which prevents the continuous treatment of skin membranes and other medical attention. Additionally, she is expecting a baby, and her ten-week gestational state complicates her medical treatment and stabilization.
María José has second and third-degree burns completely on the face and approximately 25% of total body surface. She is under mechanical ventilation. Pulmonary edema makes it nearly impossible to change these membranes. She is currently in the intensive critical care unit of a public hospital in Guatemala City.

María José, a dedicated and loved person, continued her profession by specializing in a pediatric gastroenterologist in Guadalajara, Mexico. At the end of July 2018, after 15 years of medical studies, she returned to Guatemala, dedicating herself to the public health service in the rural hospital of Escuintla and Amatitlán. At the same time, she was establishing her private clinic. I (We all) wish her, the baby and partner to have the best medical conditions to overcome this situation and allow her to continue practicing as a pediatrician at the service of others. Please, Let’s all "pray" for that. Amen
