Angels Region Award Celebration 🏆

Congratulations to Jabatan Kesihatan Negeri Pulau Pinang for receiving the prestigious Angels Region Award for Barat Daya Penang, an honour by Angels Initiative and the World Stroke Organization. This international recognition highlights the region’s excellence in stroke care through the achievement of four key pillars:

i. Community awareness through the FAST Heroes children’s stroke awareness programme with 731 children participated.
ii. Emergency ambulance performance, with St John Ambulance (SJAM) Penang achieving multiple EMS Angels Awards.
iii. Comprehensive stroke centre coverage in Barat Daya by Pantai Hospital Penang.
iv. Stroke centre performance, with Pantai Hospital Penang earning the WSO Angels Awards.

Jabatan Kesihatan Negeri Pulau Pinang has played a leading role in ensuring wide and effective healthcare coverage for the community, working closely with various stakeholders, including private institutions and non-governmental organisations.

St John Ambulance Penang is proud to be part of this remarkable achievement. In 2025, our ambulance service attained three EMS Angels Awards – Platinum Status and one Diamond Status, recognising excellence in prehospital stroke care.

This success is further strengthened by the commitment of Pantai Hospital Penang, which plays a vital role in ensuring continuous stroke readiness. From emergency management to recovery, patients receive high-quality, timely care, improving outcomes and enabling many to return to normal life, and recognised with two WSO Angels Award Diamond Status and one Platinum Status

The FAST Heroes programme continues to empower the younger generation to recognise stroke signs and act FAST. We commend the active participation of schools across the region, including 231 children from Pibk Sjkc Chung Shan participated the session conducted by St John Ambulance.

The ceremony officiated by Dr Premalosini, Assistant State Health Director, also attended by Dr Radha Malon, Stroke Care Programme Manager for Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia, Angels Initiative, Madam Karen Lim, Deputy State Commander of SJAM Penang, Tuan Syed Aidid bin Syed Mohamad, Area Commander of SJAM South West Area Penang, management, doctor and staff from Pantai Hospital Penang and representatives from schools.

Together, through collaboration and dedication, we are building a stronger, stroke-ready community.

6 April 2026 - Future Heroes Programme

The Penang State Government’s “Penang Heart Safe: Future Heroes Programme” has entered its second phase, with expansion planned from 2026 to 2028 across all 129 secondary schools in Penang. Through a structured Train-the-Trainer approach and continuous practical training, the programme aims to strengthen first aid capabilities within schools and advance the vision of a “Heart Safe Penang.”

We are proud that St. John Ambulance of Malaysia, State of Penang, was part of the first phase of this initiative, delivering crucial lifesaving skills to school students across the state.

Today, our Deputy State Commander, Madam Karen Lim, was honoured to be invited to the launch of the second phase of this programme — marking another important milestone in empowering the younger generation.

We strongly believe that youth can make a meaningful difference in society. By learning CPR from a young age, they are empowered with the confidence and skills to act in emergencies and help save lives. Together, we remain committed to building a safer, heart-ready community.

In December 2025, a cardiac arrest occurred at Lebuh Cecil Market, reminding us how precious life is. Thanks to quick action, CPR, and the use of an AED, a life was saved.

Today, Dato’ Seri Dr. Yee, State Commander, and Mdm Karen Lim, Deputy State Commander, are grateful to meet the survivor—a powerful reminder of how important timely response is in emergencies. We are also honoured to receive an AED from ZOLL Malaysia under the Heroes for Life programme, recognising the efforts of responders, bystanders, and the community.

This AED represents hope, readiness, and a second chance at life, and we are committed to keeping it accessible and ready to save more lives.

SITTING in a wheelchair, 64-year-old Indonesian tourist Tumin beamed as he met for the first time the two individuals who helped save his life after he suffered a cardiac arrest.   The meeting took place during a press conference called by state Youth, Sports and Health Committee chairman Daniel Go...

After months away, being able to return to a place closer to her loved ones brings comfort and a sense of familiarity, factors that often help patients feel more at ease and motivated in their recovery.

We are honored to have been part of her journey home. Through comprehensive coordination and careful arrangements, she was accompanied by our medical team throughout the journey, safely transferred back to Macau via a commercial airline stretcher.

Our sincere thanks to the 澳門紅十字會, for ensuring a smooth final leg of the journey, from Macau Airport to the hospital. This seamless transfer was made possible through strong coordination, as well as the enduring friendship and collaboration between the Red Cross/Red Crescent and St John Ambulance at the international level.
