Leg length discrepancy (LLD) is a condition in which the two lower limbs are of unequal length. It may be caused by congenital malformations, illness, or injury that leads to a difference in leg length over time. While most people have a mild degree of leg length discrepancy, larger differences can negatively affect overall well-being and quality of life.
One of the treatment options for leg length discrepancy is the use of custom-made footwear, where a shoe lift is added to the shorter limb. The thickness of the lift depends on the individual’s condition and the degree of discrepancy. However, when the discrepancy is too large to be effectively managed with shoe lifts alone, a more advanced solution is required.
In such cases, a custom-designed ortho-prosthesis, such as an ankle-foot orthosis (AFO) with an attached prosthetic foot, can be fabricated. This design helps reduce the discrepancy to a comfortable and functional level, thereby improving the patient’s walking ability and overall mobility.
Our custom-made ortho-prosthesis is carefully designed to fit the shape of the patient’s foot and lower leg. It is integrated with an appropriately sized pylon and prosthetic foot to accurately accommodate the leg length discrepancy, ensuring optimal comfort, stability, and gait efficiency
