I keep seeing a pattern that honestly stays with me.
A patient in his 40s came to see me with a leg wound. While treating him, I asked about his diabetes. That was when I learned he had discovered he was diabetic after losing vision in one eye, 6 years ago. Even after that, treatment was inconsistent, sugars stayed high, and complications continued to build.
And he is not the only one.
This is exactly what I am trying to understand better, without judgment.
Why do so many people with diabetes delay action, avoid treatment, or struggle to stay consistent even after serious complications begin?
Is it fear?
Denial?
Cost?
Burnout?
Bad past experiences?
Not fully understanding the seriousness?
Feeling overwhelmed?
If you live with diabetes, or if someone close to you does, I genuinely want to hear from you.
What makes it hard to take action?
Your honesty may help me understand this better and become a better doctor for the people who need help the most.
