Don't Be Afraid to Ride the Wave of Anxiety

Manage your anxiety rather than running away from it. 😩
- Anxiety can be overwhelming and exhausting whether the threat is real or not.
- Instead of denying anxious thoughts & feelings, try to sit with them and identify how they are showing up in your body.
- Physical activity & journaling can be valuable tools in processing and letting go of anxiety.

Speak to yourself or to a good friend: 🤗
- How are you feeling?
- What are you feeling?
- Where are you feeling it in your body?
- How intense is this feeling on a scale of 1-10?
- What can you do right now to manage these strong feelings?

This too shall pass. Like an ocean wave, these strong feelings will pass through you. 🌊

Childhood Invalidation Can Affect Adult Well-Being! 👧💔👩

- Emotional invalidation in childhood is linked to borderline personality disorder and pathological narcissism.
- Childhood invalidation can lead to later feelings of insecurity, deep depression, and an unstable sense of self-identity.
- Feeling unheard or unseen in childhood can lead to avoiding emotional intimacy or vulnerability in adulthood.

How the cycle repeats: 😞🔁
- Deep feelings of emptiness and feeling lonely, even when in a relationship
- Feeling unheard, unseen, or misunderstood
- Chronic feelings of guilt, shame, depression, or anxiety
- Miscommunication or a severing of communication (keeping communication shallow or superficial)
- Avoiding emotional intimacy or vulnerability
- Selfish or self-serving behaviors that may affect the other person
- Inability to relate, empathize, or comfort the other person

It’s important to know that healing from early emotional neglect and invalidation is possible. Emotional awareness is critical in helping a person overcome feelings of invalidation and to begin understanding how to validate their own lived experiences. ❤️‍🩹🥰

Because we can’t be expected to know what we were never taught, learning how to identify feelings and needs can be a slow process that requires dedication, the practicing of self-love, and reaching out to a therapist who can help in healing relational trauma.
