Anti-Drug = Anti-Corruption? Does being drug-free guarantee integrity?
I’m honoured to be invited by TEA FM to share my views on the recently debated proposal: implementing mandatory urine tests for civil servants as a measure to prevent corruption.
While the intention is good, the logic behind it warrants a deeper look. In tomorrow morning’s interview, I’ll be breaking down:
🔹 Symptoms vs. Root Causes: Urine tests can address disciplinary issues, but can they solve the problem of systemic greed?
🔹 The Sarawak Challenge: What might work in Peninsular Malaysia faces different hurdles here. Given our vast and sparsely populated geography, is this truly the most cost-effective anti-corruption strategy?
🔹 The Cost of Trust: Will mandatory surveillance create a negative atmosphere of "guilty until proven innocent" within our institutions?
To fight corruption, we need transparent systems, not just a lab report.
