" my child couldn't sit quietly, likes to climb on sofa, grill, chairs in the house and sometimes I don't have a peace of mind to even eat, is my child abnormal?"
Recently, this is one of the common statement I have been hearing from parents.
🔴Climbing among children are common, but it should be an appropriate and meaningful actions.
🔴Children has to perceive the right sensory input into their body system to overcome certain aspects of fear/feeling scared any movement against body gravity, jumping from higher point/place, running, somersault and etc.
🔹Generally, these are the norms parents will use to avoid children from participate into climbing action.
1️⃣ Offering gadgets
2️⃣ Carry instead of walking
3️⃣ Scolding
4️⃣ Punishment - hit.
🔹In spite of that, less time to bring them to park, postpone spending quality time due to certain works, tired, unstable weather and thinking child will gets dirty.
These are the matters will be running into most parents mind.
🔹The issues a child will be facing, if parents put an end from climbing.
1. Easily falls.
2. Clumsy.
3. Slow and needs some supports to go up/down on stairs.
4. Fear to sit on toilet bowl.
5. Likes to sit on floor while wearing shoes.
6. Poor sitting position, especially on floor.
🔹Climbing activity develops a child's bilateral coordination which is important for our daily routine - dressing.
It also helps to stimulate our vestibular (balance) and Proprioceptive (awareness on joint sense) whereby it helps to creates a balancing into whole body system.
🔹In other aspects, it is a necessity to improve problem solving skill such as prevent from falling down.
🔹As a parent, do not be as overprotective towards children, let them explore and gain experience from falling down and cry, eventually it will improvise their self to learn and adapt into situation to face the reality in world.
