Why Retinal Breaks Must Be Treated

Retinal breaks are small tears or holes in the retina, often caused by vitreous traction. In high myopia, the retina is thinner and more vulnerable. If untreated, these breaks can allow fluid to seep underneath, leading to rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD).

🔹 Risk of RRD
- Studies show 30–50% of symptomatic retinal breaks progress to detachment if untreated.
- RRD is an ophthalmic emergency that can cause permanent vision loss, especially if the macula detaches.
- Laser retinopexy is the gold-standard preventive treatment — it seals the break and prevents fluid entry.

🔹 Why High Myopia Matters
- Elongated eyeball → thinner retina
- Higher chance of posterior vitreous detachment
- Increased risk of multiple sequential tears

为何视网膜裂孔必须治疗

视网膜裂孔是视网膜上的小裂缝或孔洞，常因玻璃体牵拉而形成。高度近视者的视网膜较薄，更易受损。若不治疗，裂孔可能让液体渗入，导致裂孔性视网膜脱离（RRD）。

🔹 RRD 的风险
- 研究显示，30–50% 有症状的视网膜裂孔若不治疗，将发展为视网膜脱离。
- RRD 是一种眼科急症，尤其当黄斑区脱离时，可能导致永久性视力丧失。
- 激光光凝术（Laser Retinopexy）是预防性首选治疗，可封闭裂孔，阻止液体进入。
