RCSI & UCD Malaysia Campus (formerly Penang Medical College) is Malaysia’s first accredited private medical school, owned and established by the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) and University College Dublin (UCD), two world-renowned medical universities in Ireland.
Recently, the College was awarded University status by the Malaysian Ministry of Education (MOE) as a Foreign University Branch Campus, one of the highest level for a foreign-owned institution in Malaysia. RUMC remains as the only Irish University in the region.
The University is recognised by the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC) and Irish Medical Council (IMC) as graduating high performing doctors. Students are recognised for practice in the USA, Canada and others by the ECFMG and FAIRMER with the institution listed as an Irish medical school in the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS).

RUMC, wholly-owned by the RCSI and UCD has been providing the highest quality medical education to internationally recognised standards since 1996. 2016 marked our 20th Anniversary.
The first graduation ceremony took place in 2001. Since then, around 1900 doctors have graduated from RUMC, joining a global community of world-class doctors. Graduates have taken up senior positions in countries as diverse as Malaysia, Singapore, Ireland, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia and New Zealand. A report by the Institute for Health Systems Research, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, House Officer Performance in Malaysia 2009-2011, placed RUMC, then PMC among the top medical schools in preparing their graduate doctors for their early careers.
The core medical degree programme takes students to the RCSI or UCD in Dublin, Ireland for the pre-clinical years and RUMC and its Teaching Hospitals in and around Penang for their clinical training years prior to graduation. Graduates are awarded medical degrees of the National University of Ireland, which are recognised worldwide.
