This year marked my second time celebrating Pongal together with the residents of Seri Delima!

It was a warm and joyful occasion that brought the community together. Families, neighbours, and friends gathered to take part in traditional activities, share food, and enjoy each other’s company.

Being able to celebrate different cultural occasions with people from different backgrounds is something truly meaningful. And this is the beauty of Malaysia. Through community celebrations like this, we continue to build a stronger, more inclusive, and caring community for everyone.

It was also a pleasure meeting the residents, exchanging greetings, and sharing meaningful moments together.

Congratulations to MPKK Lengkok Bawah for the successful organisation of the Pongal celebration! 🎉 Let us continue to nurture this spirit of togetherness and keep our community connected through such celebrations.

பொங்கல் விழா 2026 – செரி தெலிமா 🌞

இந்த ஆண்டு செரி தெலிமா மக்களுடன் இணைந்து பொங்கலைக் கொண்டாடும் எனது இரண்டாவது ஆண்டு ஆகும்.

குடும்பங்கள், அயலவர்கள் மற்றும் நண்பர்கள் ஒன்றுகூடி பாரம்பரிய நிகழ்வுகளில் பங்கேற்று, உணவைப் பகிர்ந்து, மகிழ்ச்சியான தருணங்களை அனுபவித்த ஒரு உஷ்ணமும் மகிழ்ச்சியும் நிறைந்த நிகழ்வாக இது அமைந்தது.

பல்வேறு பின்னணியிலிருந்து வரும் மக்களுடன், பல்வேறு பண்பாட்டு விழாக்களை ஒன்றாகக் கொண்டாட முடிவது உண்மையிலேயே அர்த்தமுள்ள ஒன்று. இதுவே மலேசியாவின் அழகு. இத்தகைய சமூக விழாக்களின் மூலம், நாம் அனைவருக்கும் ஒரு வலுவான, உள்ளடக்கிய மற்றும் அக்கறை கொண்ட சமூகத்தை தொடர்ந்து உருவாக்கி வருகிறோம்.

மக்களை நேரில் சந்தித்து, வாழ்த்துகளைப் பரிமாறி, அர்த்தமுள்ள தருணங்களைப் பகிர்ந்து கொண்டது எனக்கு மிகுந்த மகிழ்ச்சியை அளித்தது.

Last Sunday, we officially launched the Island Glades Morning Market! ☀️

It was such a great way to start 2026, seeing the market come alive and our community coming together.

Months of planning and working closely with the traders and various departments have paid off, and it was amazing to see everything come together so smoothly.

The traders finally have a safe and welcoming space to run their businesses, and residents can enjoy the convenience of picking up their daily essentials in a friendly and organized environment.

A heartfelt thank you to MPKK Island Glades for always being on the ground, checking in on the traders, and helping ensure that everything runs smoothly. Your dedication makes the market a safe and welcoming space for everyone.

Together with Bukit Gelugor MP YB Ramkarpal Singh, we would like to express our appreciation to MBPP Mayor Dato’ Ir. Rajendran, and MBPP councillors En. Rohaizat Hamid, En. Visvenathan Tangavello, Ms. Koay Gaik Kee, and Ms. Tan Soo Siang for joining us and sharing in this special moment.

There’s still more to do, and we will continue working closely with everyone to make the market an even better place for traders and residents alike.

Yang paling bermakna bukan sekadar menghulurkan kalendar, tetapi dapat bertemu semula dengan wajah-wajah yang sudah biasa, bersembang seketika dan bertanya khabar.

Suasana di Kedai Kopi Bawah Pokok memang sentiasa meriah, apatah lagi bila dapat berinteraksi secara dekat dengan komuniti. Saat seperti inilah yang mengingatkan saya betapa pentingnya kehadiran dan hubungan yang berterusan bersama penduduk Sungai Gelugor.

Tahun Baru Cina makin dekat, suasana pun dah mula terasa.

Ahad ini (25/1/2026), saya akan turun ke sekitar Seri Delima bersama YB Ramkarpal Singh, Ahli Parlimen Bukit Gelugor, untuk menyantuni penduduk sambil mengagihkan buah limau dan 𝘊𝘩𝘶𝘯 𝘓𝘪𝘢𝘯 sempena Tahun Baru Cina.

Pagi itu juga akan dimulakan dengan pembukaan Pasar Pagi Island Glades, sebelum kami meneruskan walkabout di sekitar kawasan.

国际青年实习交流 𝐖𝐞𝐥𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐲 𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞🇲🇾🇨🇳

日前，我的办公室迎来了一位来自中国陕西🇨🇳的实习生—— 蕾娜。

她是在“全球治理青年人才培养计划”下，参与马来西亚槟州议员实习助理项目。

在接下来的一个月里，蕾娜将协助我和服务团队的日常工作，了解马来西亚州政府的运作，也更深入认识槟城与斯里德里玛社区。

我也向她分享了选区的整体结构、州政府的运作方式，以及在处理社区事务时的工作流程与考量。

青年交流的意义，不只是学习制度与理论，更是在真实的社会环境中观察、参与与思考。

希望蕾娜在这一个月的实习中，能够对马来西亚与槟城有更全面的认识，同时累积公共事务相关的实践经验，也更了解本地社会与城市日常，为中马青年交流留下美好的回忆。

Recently, my office welcomed an intern, Leila, from Shaanxi, China.

Over the next month, she will be working with me and my team, learning how the state government operates and getting a closer look at life in Penang and the Seri Delima community.

I’ve also shared with her how the constituency is structured, how the office handles community matters, and the thought process behind the work we do every day.

Youth exchanges like this are valuable not just for learning systems and procedures, but also for seeing how things work on the ground and experiencing the community firsthand.

I hope that during this month, Leila will gain a broader understanding of Malaysia and Penang, get practical experience in public service, and experience daily life in the city. It’s also a chance to strengthen connections between Malaysian and Chinese youth.

走访青草巷巴刹 𝐒𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐅𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐭 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐞 𝐇𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭🧧🥳

昨天早上，我去到青草巷巴刹，开启一天的行程。巴刹一向是社区最有生命力的地方，一走进去，就能感受到早市的热闹。我向居民派发春联，也提前向大家拜个早年。

在走访过程中，居民也分享了他们的需求和社区的情况，包括一些家庭需要协助。这样的交流让我更清楚社区的实际情况，也能更有针对性地思考改善措施。

趁着这次机会，我也带着巴刹管理层一起走走看看。青草巷巴刹已有约三四十年的历史，承载着很多小贩和居民的日常与回忆。随着时间推移，我认为有必要认真思考如何逐步改善环境，让巴刹焕然一新，也更好地支持本地小贩继续做生意。

Yesterday morning, I visited Greenlane Heights to spread some festive cheer and hand out spring couplets to residents. The market is always full of life in the mornings, and it was great seeing familiar faces and catching up with the community.

I also had the chance to hear from residents about what they need and some of the issues in their neighbourhood, including families who might need extra support. These conversations are really helpful for understanding the community better and thinking about what can be improved.

Together with the market management team, we took a walk around to see the space firsthand. Greenlane Heights Market has been around for 30–40 years, serving generations of vendors and residents. While it’s full of history, there’s definitely room to refresh and improve the facilities so it continues to support local businesses.

Hujung minggu lalu, saya berkesempatan bertemu dengan ‘mentee’ saya daripada pasukan Program WELIT, sebuah inisiatif yang memberi tumpuan kepada pembangunan kepimpinan wanita dan penglibatan mereka dalam landskap politik negara.

Sebagai mentor bagi projek WELIT ini, pertemuan ini menjadi ruang penting untuk berkongsi dan bertukar pandangan.

Saya menerangkan secara menyeluruh tentang Seri Delima termasuk latar demografi, jumlah penduduk, komposisi komuniti serta keluasan kawasan supaya mereka mendapat gambaran yang lebih jelas tentang realiti dan keperluan sebenar di lapangan.

Pemahaman terhadap konteks setempat amat penting supaya setiap idea dan cadangan yang dirangka benar- benar berpaksikan komuniti, bukan sekadar konsep di atas kertas. Saya berharap pertemuan ini dapat menjadi asas kepada kerjasama yang lebih bermakna.🤩

Mudah-mudahan daripada sesi perbincangan ini, kita dapat merangka sesuatu yang istimewa dan memberi manfaat nyata kepada komuniti Seri Delima, sambil melahirkan lebih ramai pemimpin wanita yang berani tampil dan membawa perubahan! 💪
