Yesterday, we received a payment of RM300 from a friend for almost 10kg of Agarwood Powder sold.

Alhamdulillah, we are truly grateful. With that amount, we were able to upgrade our woodworking equipment at MAFA OUD.

Previously, we were using a BLACK+DECKER cordless (battery-powered) tool. At that time, our budget was limited — but honestly, it has performed very well and is still working perfectly until today (about 24,000 rpm).

However, we have always wanted a tool that uses a direct power cable.

The use of glycerin as a primary agent to thicken pure agarwood oil is very difficult to detect, or sometimes nearly undetectable, when samples are sent to laboratories for GC-MS analysis.

This practice is widely used within the agarwood industry.

Glycerin → Trimethylsilyl glycerol (TMS-glycerol) (after derivatization)

Glycerin also causes the aroma of agarwood oil to last longer on the skin, as one of its key functions is as a humectant. It attracts moisture from the surrounding environment, helping the scent adhere to the skin surface for an extended period.
However, once glycerin is mixed into pure agarwood oil, the oil can no longer be considered original or truly pure.
In addition, agarwood oil blended with glycerin is significantly cheaper in market value compared to genuine, unadulterated agarwood oil.
Many people assume that thick oil must be original.
Yes, there are indeed naturally thick agarwood oils that are authentic and pure.
Unfortunately, this perception is often exploited by certain parties who artificially thicken agarwood oil by adding glycerin.
Why does this happen?

One possible reason is the unrealistic price demands from bulk buyers, particularly from certain overseas markets. These buyers are already accustomed to such blended oils and insist on much lower prices, typically ranging from:

USD $2,500 – USD $7,000 per litre
Does this affect the Pure Agarwood Industry?

Yes and no.

✅ Yes, because it distorts market pricing and confuses consumers.

✅ No, because true connoisseurs and serious collectors still seek genuine, unaltered agarwood oil.
Does glycerin have a scent?

Glycerin is almost odourless and extremely difficult to detect, especially without proper analytical preparation.
It’s still ok to use in blending Pure Agarwood Oil for making another fragrances, but declare it as Pure Oud Oil, its unethical behavior as supplier and seller.
