French surgeon Jacques Lisfranc de St. Martin, for whom the Lisfranc joint and Lisfranc fracture are named.
The Lisfranc injury or fracture is a ligamentous or fracture dislocation involving the tarsometatarsal joints (TMT) of the midfoot typically occurred when a soldier or horseman would fall while riding, having his foot trapped in the stirrup.
His famous quote
"Surgery is bright when operating but it is still brighter when there is no blood and mutilation and yet leads to the patient's recovery".
Open reduction and screw fixation/K-wiring is mandatory to reduce the morbidity associated with the injury.
