Being Authentic- The Conundrum π€
What is being authentic? This question has truly caught me offguard. Is it possible for anyone to be completely authentic? Is it showing up in the world as you are? Does dressing up and putting on makeup, facial surgery, and looking different make a person inauthentic? ππ€·
It's a question I ask myself when I look at my picture. This is me but an edited version of me with changed eye colour, slimmer face, broader lips.β¨ This edit is supposed to make me look goodππ but when I look at it I think it is me but not me. But not looking βas meβ doesnβt change the person I am inside, the one I am with people I come across. So does changing my external appearance make me inauthentic? Does that make sense? π€π
I now understand the identity crisis that people in the media, especially the entertainment and modelling industry go through. "Who am I?" "Who is the real me?" The one in front of the camera π₯ and the world. The one that has to repeatedly show up in public as a different persona to who they are inside.π Do they feel like they are living a lie? π
I used to have a false bias that those who are all dressed up and covered in makeup to hide flaws are inauthentic. A judgmental misconception, I admit π
Something just looking my edited picture made me realise. Itβs me and not me but inside I am still the same. π«° My external looks don't change the person I am.π Nor does it change anybody elseβs.
Its amazing how simple things bring you such massive awareness of a life lesson. It has definitely changed my π«Ά perception π
One thing is for sure. With me, no matter how a person looks on the outside, they have to be authentic in all other ways. Being fake or being with fakes is not my style. Be real or stay away,βοΈ SIMPLE! π
