Another busy day but happy day at clinic at TABTAR HPKK when seeing the children with hearing loss able to talk to me. we chat and the kids share their story with me and my MOs. Everyone feels the satisfaction and excited with the outcome of their cochlear implant journey! Good job Damien Woon and little girl Lim Shan Ni, family and our UKM C I Team!

Today Natalie came for appointment (yearly follow up). She is already in university studying special education to help the children in future. She is our youngest C I recipient in early 2000 when she was implanted at 11.5 months old by my sifu Prof Lokman. I took care of her and arranged her appointment for surgery and assisted the case in 2005. Very happy to see she progressed well and I must say excellent achievement in her academic and co curriculum! Super important to have the parents Raymond and Gina that involved actively in her rehabilitation. Congratulations to the proud parents!

Today 3 March is World Hearing Day! This year, WHD highlights the theme “From communities to classrooms: hearing care for all children.”
The campaign focuses on two imperatives:
Preventing avoidable childhood hearing loss
Ensuring early identification of and care for children with ear or hearing problems
Schools and communities are natural entry points to reach children, parents, and teachers. By integrating hearing care into school health and child health programmes, we can help children hear, learn, and succeed. (Copy paste from WHO website)!
I would like to share the recent article on bilateral hearing loss child that received bilateral Cochlear Implant for hearing rehabilitation and this case also mark a new milestone for early activation (switch on ) within a week after surgery. I am happy with the wound at the end of surgery and during follow up, hence the switch on was post op day 5! Thank you to my rehab team for the support!

This girl came from Perak to see me at Gleneagles (GKL) clinic today. Her mother told me that her daughter who is 17 years old now insisted to see me for her ear problem. Apparently I saw her once when she was 9 years old but no active intervention needed at that time. She continues to follow my story on social media especially on IG. Hence, she knows that she can find me at GKL on Saturday. After clinic, I told her that Inwould like to take a picture and will cover face if I post it but she said please show her face as she is happy to share her joy when finally manage to get appointment to see me. 😄☺️

The story of Jayden,the first Malaysian recipient using Smart Cochlear implant with Nexa is in the New Straits Time (NST) today! This time the article is in English. Hopefully the message on paediatric hearing loss and early intervention with cochlear implant can reach the public and also the professionals!
Early intervention is always important for better outcomes in speech and language development!
