We at CVSKL proudly marked a significant moment in interventional cardiology as we became the first centre in Asia to perform and broadcast a LithiX IVL case live during TCTAP 2025, one of the premier international conferences for cardiovascular intervention.

This opportunity allowed us to share expertise on a global stage, with the live case streamed from our centre to the main hall featuring our Consultant Cardiologists, Dato’ Dr Tamil Selvan Muthusamy, Datuk Dr Rosli Mohd Ali, Dr Al Fazir Omar and Dr Choo Gim Hooi. Their involvement provided valuable insight and contributed to discussions among international experts.

Severely calcified coronary lesions remain a major challenge in PCI, as hardened plaque can limit the ability of balloons and stents to pass through or expand properly. The LithiX IVL system helps overcome this by delivering targeted pulses of energy to modify the calcium, creating controlled fractures that improve vessel compliance and allow for safer and more effective stent implantation.

The device’s design and mechanism allow for calcium modification with a strong emphasis on safety and ease of use, offering a practical solution for treating complex lesions and potentially improving long-term patient outcomes.

The successful live demonstration highlights our role in adopting advanced cardiovascular technologies and reflects our commitment to enhancing clinical practice and sharing knowledge with the broader interventional cardiology community.

When we think about Christmas, it’s rarely the presents we remember. It’s the little things. The comfort of being surrounded by the people we love, the tradition of watching a comfort movie for the tenth year in a row because it just doesn’t feel like Christmas without it.

Sometimes it’s the messy parts too. The last-minute wrapping, the crowded living room, the same old jokes we hear every year. But those are the bits that make the season feel real, warm and ours.

We have successfully introduced the Aurora EV-ICD, a new-generation implantable defibrillator designed to protect patients from dangerous heart rhythm disturbances.

Unlike conventional devices, this system is placed outside the blood vessels, which means:

* Reduced risk of complications linked to wires inside the veins
* Better preservation of the patient’s blood vessels
* A less invasive approach while delivering life-saving shock therapy when needed

The procedure was performed by our consultant electrophysiologists, Datuk Dr Razali Omar and Dr Zulkeflee Muhammad with Dr Abdul Raqib Abdul Ghani from Serdang Hospital, reflecting CVSKL’s continued commitment to advancing patient-centred cardiovascular care through innovation and expertise.

Over the past weekend, we had the pleasure of partnering with MySole Solutions for a three-day free health screening event held in front of Lotus’s at Sunway Wangsawalk Mall. This initiative was close to our hearts, as it aimed to bring essential health services closer to the community and raise awareness about the importance of taking proactive steps for a healthier lifestyle.

Visitors had the chance to engage with our team and learn practical tips on staying active, eating well, and maintaining overall well-being. Many shared their own experiences, asked thoughtful questions, and showed genuine interest in making small changes that could positively impact their health.

We were truly honoured to be part of the launch of Heart to Heart – Memoir of Cardiothoracic Surgeon Yahya Awang, a heartfelt chronicle celebrating the life, legacy, and remarkable contributions of our Chairman Emeritus, Tan Sri Dato’ Dr Yahya Awang.

The event was made even more special with the presence of Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad, and Tun Dr Hasmah Mohd Ali. It also marked a significant milestone, as Tan Sri Dato’ Dr Yahya Awang was conferred the Degree of Doctor of Laws by Monash University, recognising his lasting impact on medicine and nation-building.
