Working in a hospital comes with its own rhythm. Some days move quickly, others feel longer than expected, and no two days are ever quite the same. It takes focus, patience, and a steady commitment to keep things going, even when the day gets challenging.

We see this in our staff every day, in the way they show up, carry out their responsibilities, and keep things running with care and consistency. It is not always visible, but it makes a difference.

Today, we take a moment to recognise the effort behind every role, not just within our hospital, but across all fields.

𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗸𝘀, 𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝘁 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱

Mitral regurgitation is a common type of heart valve disease. Patients may notice getting breathless more easily, feeling more tired than usual, or needing to rest more often, while some may not notice any symptoms at first until it becomes more severe.

This happens when the valve does not close properly, causing some blood to flow backwards. As a result, the heart has to work harder, and over time it can begin to stretch and weaken. In many cases, it can now be repaired through a small puncture without open heart surgery, using techniques like transcatheter edge to edge repair (TEER), which allows for a quicker recovery.

In this article, Dr Al Fazir Omar, Consultant Cardiologist, shares more about how mitral regurgitation develops and the treatment options available.

For some jobs, we get used to long hours on our feet, constantly moving, constantly going, until tired legs start to feel normal, almost expected. But sometimes, that heaviness or aching is not just part of the routine, it is your body trying to tell you something is not quite right.

When blood does not flow properly in your veins, it can start to build up instead of moving back to the heart. Over time, this may lead to varicose veins, swelling, and discomfort that slowly becomes part of your everyday life. It may not seem serious at first, but it is more than just how your legs look, and it is never just a cosmetic issue.

Dr Tan Kia Lean, our Consultant Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon, often meets patients who waited too long because they thought it was just a cosmetic issue, when a simple check could have made all the difference. If your legs have been feeling different lately, it might be time to pay a little more attention.

When a gen Z takes over the kitchen, expect a little chaos. In this first episode, Ms Sakinah from the HealthScan team bravely steps in despite admitting she doesn’t really cook, guided by Ms Aslinda, our Dietitian, who does her best to keep things on track.

On the menu is a colourful pasta salad, simple, balanced, and surprisingly doable at home. It’s the kind of meal you can prepare without spending too much time in the kitchen, making it perfect for busy days or when you just want something quick but still satisfying. Despite its simplicity, it covers all the basics of a balanced meal, with carbohydrates from pasta, protein from chicken, plus a mix of vegetables and fruits, and healthy fats from the dressing .

From “agak-agak” measurements to some bold cooking decisions, this episode is equal parts learning and entertainment, with a touch of healthy cooking along the way.

Watch till the end to see how it turns out. Stay tuned for the next episode!

Most people don’t think about their blood vessels until something feels off. By then, it might already be more than just a small issue.

This is where a simple check can make a difference. Our Vascular Screening Package helps you understand what is happening beneath the surface, from blood flow to early signs of blockage, so you can make more informed decisions about your health.

The package includes carotid artery ultrasound, abdominal aorta ultrasound, and ankle brachial index (ABI) test to give you a clearer and more complete picture.

𝗖𝗩𝗦𝗞𝗟 𝗛𝗮𝗿𝗶 𝗥𝗮𝘆𝗮 𝗙𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲

As part of our yearly tradition, we brought everyone together again for our Hari Raya feast and it did not disappoint. It was so nice seeing our staff show up in their Raya best, catching up, laughing, and just enjoying a break from the usual routine.

The best female dressed and best male dressed definitely understood the assignment. The looks, the confidence, the effort it all showed and made the whole celebration even more fun to watch.

Overall, it was simple, easy, and just a really good time, the kind of gathering that leaves you feeling a little lighter after.

Recently, Datuk Dr Rosli Mohd Ali, our Consultant Cardiologist, was invited to Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Referral Hospital in Thimphu, Bhutan by Dr Mahesh Gurung, Interventional Cardiologist, to manage a highly complex case involving a patient who presented with a heart attack and a completely occluded left anterior descending (LAD) artery.

The procedure performed was a Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) for Chronic Total Occlusion (CTO) of the left anterior descending (LAD) artery, a technically demanding intervention that requires precision, experience, and advanced skill. In this case, the artery had been fully blocked for a prolonged period, making it significantly more challenging to treat compared to standard cases. The procedure involved carefully navigating specialised guidewires through the blocked segment of the artery to restore blood flow to the heart and support overall cardiac function. The procedure took approximately three and a half hours to complete, demonstrating the level of expertise required in managing such complex conditions.

Encouragingly, the patient made a good recovery and was discharged two days later, reflecting the effectiveness of timely intervention and specialised cardiac care.

At CVSKL, we remain committed to delivering excellence in cardiovascular treatment through continuous collaboration, knowledge exchange, and patient-centred care. Initiatives such as these not only enhance clinical capabilities but also reinforce our role in supporting the advancement of cardiac services both locally and internationally.

In our recent visit in Surabaya, Indonesia, we had the privilege of connecting with the local community alongside our partner, Hospital Picaso, sharing a glimpse into how modern medicine is redefining the patient experience today.

During the session, we showcased the evolution of cardiovascular care, from complex coronary interventions and stent procedures to bypass techniques performed with significantly less surgical impact. These approaches help reduce patient's discomfort, support quicker recovery, and allow patients to get back to their daily routines sooner.

Together with Hospital Picaso we also highlighted newer innovations such as robotic surgery and modern treatment options for conditions like endometriosis, offering patients more precise and less invasive alternatives.

It was really encouraging to see the level of interest and engagement from the Surabaya community, and the growing awareness around seeking treatment beyond borders.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Hospital Picaso and our dedicated heart team for making this engagement possible.

At CVSKL, we remain committed to making advanced care more accessible, while continuing to put patients at the centre of everything we do.
