Dr Woo is a UK-trained Consultant Eye Specialist sub-specialising in Cataract Surgery and Complex Glaucoma. He returned to Malaysia in 2019 after spending over 20 years in the United Kingdom and joined ISEC, where he is currently Assistant Medical Director. Dr Woo has a particular interest in customised, small-incision Cataract Surgery and the management of Glaucoma using Minimally-invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS). He was the first Eye Surgeon to establish a MIGS service in Northeast England. Dr Woo also manages complex Glaucoma cases using a broad range of treatment options including filtration surgery (Moorfields Safer Surgery System), glaucoma drainage devices, and laser. Prior to returning home to Malaysia, Dr Woo was one of a select few high-volume cataract surgeons at the well-regarded Cataract Treatment Centre (CTC) at Sunderland Eye Infirmary. He has also worked as a Consultant Eye Specialist at York Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Dr Woo completed a comprehensive 7-year Ophthalmology specialist-training program in the North East of England following a competitive selection process. He then commenced his Glaucoma Fellowship training at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London and spent 2 years working with some of the most prominent and pioneering ophthalmologists in the world. Dr Woo graduated from University College London Medical School where he was awarded a scholarship to study Medicine. During his time at UCL, he received a second scholarship to complete an Intercalated BSc in Tumour Biology. Dr Woo has been awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in London (FRCOphth) and the UK Certificate of Completion of Training in Ophthalmology (CCT). He is on the UK General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist Register for Ophthalmology and has also been recognised as an Eye Specialist by the National Specialist Register (NSR) of Malaysia. Dr Woo has a keen interest in medical education and training and has served as both the Foundation Program Tutor and Undergraduate Tutor at Sunderland Eye Infirmary. He was also Educational Supervisor to numerous UK Ophthalmology registrars and took an active role in their pastoral care as well as their clinical and surgical training. Dr Woo is an Examiner for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists for the Refraction Certificate and FRCOphth Fellowship Examinations. He is regularly invited to deliver lectures at academic meetings and also serves as a reviewer for several scientific journals in Ophthalmology.
