Parliament has passed the Employees Social Security Act Amendment Bill 2025, introducing a new 24/7 protection scheme under SOCSO. This means workers are now covered for accidents at any time, not just during working hours.

More than 9.6 million formal sector workers are expected to benefit from this expanded coverage, which reflects today’s hybrid and flexible work environment. Previously rejected accident claims that happened outside working hours will now be protected.

This amendment strengthens Malaysia’s social protection system and brings it closer to international standards.
