GARDENING AS GROUNDING
Get down into the dirt and reconnect with the soil of the earth.
When we strip away the many layers of our lives, we will find that ultimately, it is food that keeps us alive. Besides eating and cooking, another way to connect to the food we eat is through gardening. After all, it is the environment that grows our food.
Placing your hands into the soil is thus a good grounding activity that brings you closer to Earth, both literally and metaphorically. It helps you realise that nature is not just what’s around us, we are not detached from the air, the plants, the animals or the ground we tread on. But rather, every single one of us is a part of nature.
So make time for it, create opportunities to spend time in the garden getting your hands dirty amid the life-giving soil, especially in the late afternoon when the temperature drops. Get to know the plants, prepare the planting beds and sow some seeds. And as you do so, remember that you’re not just pottering around with plants but strengthening a direct link with and a way to be one with nature while nurturing a living skill.
