WHEN CAN YOUR BABY DRINK PLAIN WATER

The newborn's kidneys at birth are tiny and can only hold 1-2 teaspoons of milk and they get empty so fast that he needs to be fed every hour or two. You will want to fill the little tummy
each time with nutritious breast milk or formula milk. Filling the stomach with water will dull the baby's appetite resulting in the baby refusing the next feed.
Newborn baby's kidneys are underdeveloped and cannot filter or process water efficiently. When there is too much water entering his body all at once it may ends up in the blood circulatory system where it dilutes his blood and upset the micronutrients-fluid balance content resulting in nutrients depletion as well as possible swelling in the brain.
This risk comes in the form of direct water feeding by the ounces, diluting formula milk too much and gulping too much water when baby is accidently submerged under water.

As the baby progresses in age so will the kidneys gradually mature. At 5-6 months, he can be given tablespoons of water in increasing amount. As he gets older he can have ounces of water after nutritious foods and liquid is fed to baby first before offering the plain water.

Currently I'm in Hong Kong. Have been here for the last 3 weeks. Lovely weather... not too hot nor cold and not raining much.... but next month, September, is rainy and typhoon season. The weather should be colder as well. I'll be here till 3rd week October.

Got so attached to this wonderful couple in Sydney that it was really with a sad heart to leave them and baby to catch my KL bound flight. Wishing for them the best in every step of their parental journey.
