Sultan Ahmad Shah Medical Centre (SASMEC ), in a dynamic collaboration with the Kulliyyah of Pharmacy, successfully organised the Kembara Sihat @ POS Sinderut from 3rd to 5th April 2026.
This high-impact community outreach program under the KPT MADANI Sejahtera initiative aimed to elevate the health and socio-economic well-being of the Orang Asli community at POS Sinderut, Sungai Koyan, Kuala Lipis.
The success of this flagship program was the result of the powerful synergy between multiple strategic agencies, including Sekolah Kebangsaan Sinderut, the Pinzgauer Team, UPM, IIUM Kuantan Usrah in Action (Students Section 824), Pertubuhan Kebajikan Islam Malaysia (PERKIM), Malaysia Relief Agency (MRA) Pahang, and Pejabat Kesihatan Daerah Kuala Lipis.
Reaching the remote settlement was an adventure in itself. All volunteers had to navigate a gruelling, three-hour off-road journey through harsh and uneven terrain. This safe passage was made entirely possible by the highly skilled and dedicated Pinzgauer Team, who expertly maneuvered their 4x4 vehicles to ensure the safety of the volunteers.
Throughout the three-day mission, a diverse range of activities was specially curated to benefit the villagers. Comprehensive health screenings and educational health talks were conducted by the Pejabat Kesihatan Daerah Kuala Lipis, alongside a Home Medication Review by the Kulliyyah of Pharmacy team and a dedicated hair hygiene session for the children by the IIUM Kuantan Usrah in Action students.
The volunteers also distributed basic food supplies to 100 families, alongside preloved clothing. Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) contributed significantly by distributing quail chicks (anak burung puyuh), durian saplings, and fertilizers, engaging the community in meaningful hands-on sessions on breeding and planting.
SASMEC also played a pivotal role in the expedition by hosting a Nursing Career Talk delivered by Madam Asmawati Che Ismail, Head, Department of Human Resource. Madam Che Rokiah Ismail, Director (Clinical Support Services), also joined the session to inspire eligible post-SPM teenagers to seize a life-changing opportunity.
Through this initiative, SASMEC is offering a special full sponsorship specifically for Orang Asli youth to pursue their studies in nursing, coupled with guaranteed employment as a nurse at the medical centre upon graduation.
The memorable mission concluded on a high note with a joyous sukaneka (telematch) that brought the volunteers and the community together in laughter. The closing ceremony featured heartwarming performances by the students of SK Sinderut and the IIUM Kuantan Usrah in Action team, marking the end of a truly life-changing journey for both the organisers and the POS Sinderut community.
