ISSUP Malaysia

ISSUP Malaysia We are specialists in evidence-based health promotion and drug demand reduction. We empower children to build resilience and essential life skills.

We enable youth and communities to thrive healthily, free from addiction and substance use. The International Society for Substance Use Professionals, Malaysia Chapter, is proudly known as ISSUP Malaysia. We are drug demand reduction (DDR) professionals, specializing in evidence-based health promotion. We exist to
1) Develop more professionals in the field of health promotion and substance use prevention, treatment, and recovery support. We do so by providing training courses based on the Universal Prevention Curriculum (UPC) and the Universal Treatment Curriculum,

2) Conduct health promotion and essential life skills development programs for children using evidence-based curriculum,

3) Empower youth and communities with evidence-based prevention intervention programs to enable them to thrive with healthier lifestyle choices, free from substance use and addiction.

4) Advocate for policy changes that promote health equity, and healthy lifestyles and treat addiction as a chronic disease that should be treated just like other chronic diseases like diabetes or asthma, and

5) Combat stigmatization and discrimination of people with addiction or substance use disorders. We work with policymakers, community leaders, grassroots organizations, educational institutions, healthcare organizations, and relevant government agencies to achieve our objectives to create a healthy society, safe from substance use and addiction.

ISSUP Malaysia – MADANI & Prevention in Action

The Mental Health Carnival 2025 in Bau showed how Malaysia MADANI and evidence-based prevention move together.

This event gave students the opportunity to showcase their creativity, knowledge and learning, and through the event they demonstrate that:

🤝 kindness reduces stigma
💬 open conversations encourage early help-seeking
🌱 empathy strengthens peer support
🧠 emotional skills build resilience
🏫 shared responsibility creates a safe school climate

This is MADANI lived through action and it is also the foundation of strong, community-based prevention.

Yesterday, our students proved that when we nurture MADANI values, we build a generation that can protect itself, support one another, and thrive.

Student Led Mental Health Carnival 2025, 6 December 2025.

It was an inspiring day in Bau! The hall was filled with colour, creativity, and the incredible energy of our students.

Today, these students led activities, shared messages of resilience, and showed us how powerful youth voices can be when given space to shine.

A heartfelt thank you to the Pejabat Pendidikan Daerah BAU, teachers, counsellors, and Yayasan Hasanah, for making this possible.

To the students, you brought this carnival to life with your joy, teamwork, and courage. Let’s continue building a generation that supports each other with kindness and empathy.
