Throwback to my first visit to Uncle Henry’s workshop on 1 December — the 85-year-old master wood carver patiently walked me through every tool: the different chisels, gouges, mallets, rasps, and everything in between. I just stood there soaking it all in, surrounded by decades of his beautiful work.
Fast forward to today — my second proper class — and Uncle Henry wasted no time. Straight to hands-on: he handed me a rough chunk of hardwood and said, “Okay, today you make your own mallet.” 😅
3 hours (and a mountain of wood shavings) later, here it is — my very own hand-carved mallet. Still rough around the edges, but I made it from scratch and I’ll be using it for every project from now on.
So grateful to be learning this craft from a true legend. Thank you, Uncle Henry. More updates coming as I slowly get better! 🪵✨
