2026 Visit to The Sarawak Cheshire Home ❤️
On 18 April, the visit to Cheshire Home was successfully carried out according to plan, bringing together members from the Malaysian Red Crescent Cadet Unit 193 (Lodge International School) and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (St. Joseph Conference, Kuching).
A total of 12 cadets, accompanied by two teachers Mr Leslie and Mr Daryl, took part in this meaningful outreach. SSVP was represented by Ms Julia and other two members.
We were warmly received by Sister Felis, who provided a briefing and guided us through a short orientation of the Home’s operations and facilities. The visit was truly an eye-opening experience, especially for our young cadets, as they engaged directly with residents who are mentally and physically challenged, learning lessons far beyond the classroom.
One of the most memorable parts of the visit was the interaction sessions. During the drawing session, cadets stood side by side with the residents, guiding and encouraging them. What started as a simple activity quickly turned into moments of genuine connection - smiles, laughter, and even friendly exchanges over colours and ideas. Many were pleasantly surprised by the residents’ creativity and ability to express themselves through art despite their limitations. It was not just about drawing, but about sharing time, patience, and companionship.
Equally heartwarming was the singing session, where another group of cadets bonded with the residents through music. The room was filled with joy as familiar tunes were sung together, such as Poco Poco and 月亮代表我的心, creating a lively and uplifting atmosphere. Our cadets thoroughly enjoyed letting loose, clapping along, and singing side by side with the residents.
We also presented our donation in kind including fresh chicken, groceries, medical supplies, and daily necessities, a small contribution made with big hearts.
This visit created sweet and lasting memories for both the residents and our participants. We hope this experience will leave our young cadets a deep and lasting impact as they move forward in life, carrying with them compassion, empathy, and a spirit of service.
Together for humanity ❤️
