What Is Early Intervention?
Early intervention refers to providing therapy and developmental support as soon as a child shows signs of delays or challenges — typically from birth to age 5.
This is a critical period when the brain is rapidly developing and forming new connections. During this time, children learn foundational skills for movement, play, communication, and independence.
When OT begins early, it helps build strong developmental foundations and can often prevent small difficulties from becoming larger, long-term challenges.
What We Do
Our experienced pediatric occupational therapists help children build essential life skills through play-based, personalized therapy.
We focus on improving your child’s:
• Fine motor skills – for handwriting, buttoning, and self-feeding
• Gross motor coordination – for balance, strength, and posture
• Sensory processing – to help your child focus, calm, and participate in daily routines
• Self-care and independence – in dressing, grooming, and eating
• Social and emotional skills – to improve confidence and peer relationships
______________
How Early Support Improves Long-Term Outcomes
1. Maximizes Brain Plasticity
o Early childhood is when the brain is most adaptable.
o Intervention during this “window of opportunity” helps children build new skills faster and more effectively.
2. Prevents Secondary Challenges
o Addressing developmental concerns early can reduce frustration, anxiety, and self-esteem issues that might develop later.
o It can also prevent academic and social struggles that arise when motor or sensory issues go unnoticed.
3. Builds Confidence and Independence
o Early OT empowers children to master daily routines and participate fully in play, school, and family life.
o Success in small tasks often leads to greater motivation and self-confidence.
4. Supports Families and Caregivers
o Parents learn strategies to encourage skill-building through play and everyday routines.
o Family involvement enhances progress and consistency across settings (home, school, community).
5. Improves School Readiness
o Early OT can prepare children for handwriting, attention, social interaction, and following structured routines — key components of school success.
