The Melaka Life Saving Society “MLSS” will act as a volunteer organization as well as a non-governmental organization which will serve as a branch chapter from Life Saving Society Malaysia “LSSM”. By maintaining close liaison with the headquarters (LSSM) and members of the public, it will serve as the state level knowledge and skills development centre for all certified lifeguards in the state and country. At present, estimated number of certified lifeguards in the country more than thousands of people and MLSS will aim to create even more awareness in Melaka state and in Malaysia. Once in a while, we often hear tragic cases of drowning and cardiac arrests that was not attended to in a timely manner resulting in many casualties and even deaths. Hence, in order to reduce and maintain a tight control on these cases and refrain them from happening, the key is and always be, Prevention and Education. It has been and will always be an uphill task by all societies to educate the members of the public on water safety and the safety of everyone around them in their daily activities. For that reason, MLSS will be actively involved in encouraging the public to obtain proficiency in swimming and at the same time, life saving skills. Due to the fact that life saving skills involved provision of basic first aid and cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills, members of the public will be branded as Life Saver. With the increasing number of trained Life Savers in the public, no doubt, we can be very much assured that, whatever happens, our family, friends and us are safe. Primary reason will be, there bound to be someone around our family, friends and us who are a trained Life Saver. For this to be realized, the responsibility will fall on each of us with MLSS as the medium to ensure that our future generation will adopt life saving technique not in future but right now, today.
