Dengue fever is common in our region, so it’s important to understand when it’s just a fever and when to seek help. Here’s what you need to know:
🌡 Warning Signs of Severe Dengue
If you’ve had a fever that suddenly drops and then develop any of the following, please seek medical help immediately:
• Severe abdominal pain
• Persistent vomiting
• Bleeding (from gums, nose, or in vomit/stools)
• Rapid breathing, extreme fatigue/restlessness
These could be signs of severe dengue, which can be life-threatening without prompt care.
🩸 Why Platelet Count Matters
Dengue often causes a drop in platelet count — these cells help your blood clot. A very low platelet count can increase bleeding risk and help your doctor decide if closer monitoring or treatment is needed.
🔁 Can You Get Dengue More Than Once?
Yes — there are four types of dengue virus. Getting dengue once doesn’t protect you from the others. In fact, subsequent infections can sometimes be more severe.
📅 How Long Does Recovery Take?
Most people recover within 1–2 weeks. Fever and early symptoms often last about 2–7 days, but tiredness can linger for a few weeks.
🩺 Remember: Early action can save lives. If in doubt, get checked — especially if danger signs appear. Stay hydrated and protect yourself from mosquito bites! 🧴🦟
