Hypertonic Saline a game changer.

I personally have noticed how my own kids recover faster after starting them on hypertonic saline at the start of their cold.

βœ… How to use it :

1-2 sprays 4-5 times a day at the onset of a cold (runny nose and cough). You can use hypertonic saline at any age.

Spray until symptoms get better or at least for 1 week.

Let us know in the comments if you have had experience with hypertonic saline ! 😊😊😊

A recent large study called the ELVIS-Kids trial found that using hypertonic saline nasal drops for young children with a common cold can shorten the duration of symptoms by about two days and reduce the spread of the virus to other family members.

This treatment may also lead to fewer episodes of wheezing.

βœ… Paracetamol and Ibuprofen are both safe for children when taken properly. They both help reduce fever and pain to make your child more comfortable

βœ… Ibuprofen works better for inflammation ( such as ear, throat or sinus infections ). It not only reduces pain and fever but also helps reduce swelling and redness.

βœ… Ibuprofen works longer than paracetamol , 6-8 hours instead of 4-6 hours, so Ibuprofen is a better option before sleep πŸ’€.

βœ… It is safe to give both together if your child has a very high fever 🌑️or in severe discomfort/pain however, one is usually strong enough to help.

🚨If both are needed it's best to consult a doctor.

🚨 If given together please make sure you keep tract of the doses. ( Paracetamol is given 15 mg/kg/dose every 4-6 hours and Ibuprofen is given 10 mg/kg/dose every 6-8 hours)

βœ… Paracetamol is safe to be given at any age. However please consult a doctor if your child is less than 1 year old as fever at this age can indicate something more serious.

βœ… Ibuprofen is safe to be given to children above 3 months old ( 6 months old in the USA).

Button batteries are extremely dangerous for kids if placed in the ear, nose, or throat.

They can cause severe burns, tissue damage, and internal injuries within just a few hours.

Always keep batteries out of reach and seek immediate medical help if a child inserts a battery into their ear, nose, or throat. Safety is key to protecting little ones!

πŸ”Ž How I Identify Kids with Nasal Breathing Problems πŸ”Ž

As an ENT surgeon, I look for specific signs in children : πŸ•΅οΈ

πŸ‘€ Allergic Shiners: Dark circles or puffiness under the eyes often indicate nasal congestion and allergies, affecting breathing.

πŸ‘„ Mouth Breathing: Persistent mouth breathing, suggests difficulty in nasal airflow and potential obstruction.

Early recognition of these signs allows for timely intervention and better breathing health for children!

🌟 Did You Know? 🌟

Honey is actually recommended for coughs in children over 1 year old by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the World Health Organisation ! 🍯✨

It's a natural soothing remedy that can help ease coughs and sore throats. Always remember, do not give honey to children under 1 year due to the risk of botulism.

Stop giving children below 6 cough and cold medications . They just do not work and can cause many unwanted side effects.

Stay healthy and informed! πŸ’™πŸ‘Ά

🧴 Saline Rinses & Enlarged Adenoids: What Parents Should Know! πŸ‘‚βŒ

Did you know? For children with enlarged adenoids, using saline rinses can sometimes lead to ear problems. This is because saline rinses might push fluid into the Eustachian tubes, increasing the risk of ear infections or discomfort.

βœ… Safer Alternative:

Try saline sprays instead! They deliver gentle moisture to the nasal passages without the pressure of rinses, reducing the risk of complications.

Always consult your child's healthcare provider before making changes to their nasal care routine. Keep their ears happy and healthy! πŸ‘ΆπŸ’™

Healthy Sleep, Happy Kid! πŸŒ™βœ¨**

A good night's sleep is essential for every child's growth and development. Ideally, children should sleep quietly without mouth breathing or snoring.

If you notice your child breathing through their mouth or snoring loudly, it could be a sign of a breathing problem that requires medical attention !

Early diagnosis and treatment can make a big difference in ensuring they breathe easy and sleep peacefully. πŸ’€πŸŒ¬οΈ
