On 4th December 2024, Synapse Sdn Bhd signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia - UKM , represented by its Fakulti Perubatan UKM , at the Tunku Ampuan Besar Tuanku Aishah Rohani Childrenโs Specialist Hospital. The ceremony was officiated by Associate Professor Dr. Ruslinda Mustafar, Deputy Dean (Industry and Community Partnerships Affairs) of UKM, and Dr. Rachna Kairon, Managing Director of Synapse Laboratory.
This collaboration aims to establish a center of healthcare excellence for newborn screening in Malaysia, fostering innovation and enhancing healthcare outcomes. Synapse Laboratory will provide comprehensive training to UKM medical students in newborn screening techniques and offer hands-on placements at its facilities to boost practical skills. Both parties are committed to increasing public awareness about the importance of newborn screening, redefining healthcare for future generations. As part of this initiative, Prof. Dr. Cheah F**k Choe from UKM's Department of Pediatrics has been appointed as the Consultant for the newborn screening program.
We are honored to have Associate Professor Dr. Norazlin Kamal Nor, Head of the Pediatrics Department, Mr. Tan Kian Shing, General Manager of Synapse Sdn Bhd, Prof. Dr. Cheah F**k Choe, Coordinator of the UKM-Synapse MoU, along with other esteemed senior officers from both institutions.
