One of the worldβs oldest medical systems is Ayurvedic medicine. Ayur means life and Veda means knowledge. Knowledge of life is called Ayurveda.
Ayurveda originated in India more than 3,000 years ago and until today it remains as one of the countryβs traditional health care systems. Use of herbal compounds, special diets, and other unique treatment practices are involved in Ayurvedic science. Many studies have examined Ayurvedic medicine, including herbal products, for specific conditions. Many Ayurvedic practices predate written records and were handed down by word of mouth. known as The Great Trilogy (three ancient main Ayurvedic texts books ) were written in Sanskrit more than 2,000 years ago βCaraka Samhita, Sushruta Samhita, and Astanga Hridaya.
Key concepts of Ayurvedic medicine include universal interconnectedness (among people, their health, and the universe), Ayurvedic physicians prescribe individualized treatments based on the bodyβs constitution (prakriti), and life forces(dosha), including compounds of herbs or proprietary ingredients, and diet, exercise, and lifestyle recommendations.
Ayurvedic medicine is entirely holistic which aims at creating harmony between the body, mind, and spirit, maintaining perfect balance within the body and in turn prevents illness and contributes to a long and healthy life.
