Where Does Suffering Come From?
Suffering may be more than just a feeling—it can be a burden that is passed on.
When suffering is given to someone by fate or by others, if they cannot transform it into sweetness, they may unknowingly pass it along to those around them. It spreads like a shadow, like a silent chain. And in this way, suffering is truly inherited.
But chains can be broken—intentionally.
Once we realize this, we have a choice: rather than passing on the suffering we receive, we can try to offer others kindness instead. Even if it‘s just a moment of understanding, a helping hand, a gesture of warmth.
This is not only about helping others. When you begin to offer kindness, you also begin to change the atmosphere around you.
Those small acts of goodwill ripple back, quietly loosening the knots of bitterness in your own life.
In the end, the kindness you give may not immediately return as kindness—but it will never deepen the cycle of suffering. And the world, because of that one choice, may begin to turn toward something lighter, something brighter.
So while suffering may be inevitable, whether we pass it on or not—that is always our decision to make.
