Part 3 : (PEG) Tube Feeding : Dietitian’s Role

When a patient is unable to swallow safely due to medical conditions, ensuring proper nutrition becomes one of the most important aspects of care.

A PEG tube is a feeding tube inserted directly into the stomach through the abdominal wall using a minimally invasive endoscopic procedure. It is recommended for patients who are unable to swallow adequately due to conditions such as stroke, advanced dementia, head and neck cancers, prolonged unconsciousness or other neurological disorders.

Tube feeding allows patients to receive the essential nutrients, fluids, and medications they need — helping to maintain strength, prevent malnutrition, and support recovery or long-term care.

At Assunta Hospital, we understand that decisions regarding feeding support can be emotional and complex for families. Our multidisciplinary team works closely with patients and caregivers to ensure informed decisions, compassionate guidance, and safe ongoing care.

This video is shared for educational purposes, please consult our medical team for personalised advice.

Look out for part 4 where we'll share on the speech therapist's role in tube feeding.

🧠 Three Pillars of Fasting

When children fast, their bodies naturally go through small adjustments in energy levels, hunger signals, and mood as they adapt to a different eating routine.

Understanding these changes helps parents support their children with patience, rest, and balanced meals so the experience remains positive and meaningful.

This content is prepared with Dr Syed Abdul Khaliq, our Consultant Paediatrician & Neonatologist to help parents guide children safely this Ramadan.

Question for you: Have you noticed any changes in your child’s mood or energy while fasting? Comment down below!

“Caring for People, Protecting the Planet” 🌍

Did you know a single hemodialysis session can have a carbon footprint equivalent to driving nearly 240 kilometres?

Kidney care is life-saving but with treatments like dialysis require significant amounts of water, energy and single-use medical materials. This creates a feedback loop where kidney disease and climate change can worsen one another in the long run.

For this , we are reminded that caring for kidney health also means caring for the environment that sustains us as a whole.

💚 At Assunta Hospital, our specialists are committed to supporting patients and families with compassionate and comprehensive kidney care.
