Many Catholics are increasingly opting to skip funeral Masses, wakes, and rosaries due to cultural shifts, trends in cremation, disruptions caused by COVID, and a lack of catechesis. Adult children frequently choose secular or simplified services, prioritising convenience over tradition. The practice of cremation often delays the rites, and ashes are commonly kept at home, which goes against Church teaching. Traditional customs, such as rosary prayers, are fading, particularly in mixed-faith families. Many people are unaware of the spiritual significance of Catholic funeral rites; however, education often inspires a return to these important practices.
