“Silent but serious — Asymptomatic Bacteriuria in pregnancy needs attention. A simple urine test can make a big difference. The correct test should be done.

Urinary tract infection (UTI) is common in pregnancy due to the anatomical changes during pregnancy which can lead to urinary retention, making pregnant women more susceptible to bacterial growth and infection. The presence of bacteria in the urine without any symptoms of a UTI called as Asymptomatic Bacteriuria (ABU).

Have you screened for ABU?
2–5% of pregnant woman have ABU and this can lead to complications such as fetal growth restriction and preterm birth. A simple urine test during pregnancy can help eliminate this problem. Best test in 1st and 2nd trimester, but anytime is a good time.
