Malaysia has one of the highest rates of bullying in schools, compared with 44 other countries worldwide. We explore how bullying affects children in vulnerable situations, such as those from low-income or dysfunctional families, or those who are stateless, and how it leaves scars in children’s psychological and emotional well-being.

𝑨𝒏𝒖𝒎 𝑺𝒐𝒇𝒆𝒂, Clinical Psychologist from Thrive Well, and 𝑭𝒆𝒍𝒊𝒄𝒊𝒂 𝒀𝒐𝒐𝒏, Co-Founder of Arus Academy, join us for this conversation in this episode of ‘𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬’ with 89.9.

In conjunction with the 𝐒𝐮𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡 this coming September, on this episode of ‘𝐁𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐅𝐞𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫’ with , 𝑬𝒕𝒕𝒂 𝑪𝒉𝒂𝒕𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒋𝒆𝒆, the Chairperson of Befrienders KL, and 𝑺𝒉𝒚𝒖𝒂𝒏, a volunteer with the helpline, share how they journey with callers in their pain and loneliness.

Many new mothers experience a sense of losing their identity as they navigate the significant life changes brought on by motherhood, particularly in the early stages. 𝑨 𝟏𝟎-𝒀𝒆𝒂𝒓 𝑫𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒎 𝒐𝒇 𝑴𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒉𝒐𝒐𝒅 🤱🏻

Motherhood brings with it a complexity of mental health issues, but what about the period leading up to conceiving a baby? And what if it takes a woman years to get pregnant? What kind of anxieties does she have to silently manage, amid societal norms that put the pressure of child-bearing on women?

On this episode of 𝐁𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐅𝐞𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫, we speak to Nurul Zulkifli ( ), mother & CEO of Mimpikita ( ), on the emotional journey of her decade-long struggle to have a baby to now being a mother of three beautiful boys. 💖

While public housing in Malaysia aims to keep low-income communities out of slums, we’ve seen that it is not enough to merely provide a roof over their heads. The numbers of urban poor are rising, and they’re struggling to achieve a basic quality of life. 💫

According to a 2022 report by , half of the public housing population in Malaysia do not have enough money to buy food, and children are growing up with significant rates of malnutrition, including being underweight, overweight and stunted.

𝐇𝐚𝐧𝐚 𝐙𝐮𝐥𝐤𝐢𝐟𝐥𝐢, Senior Manager from 𝑻𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒌 𝑪𝒊𝒕𝒚, joins us to look at how public housing transformation can improve public health outcomes, while 𝐂𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐲 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐰, Head of Community Development from 𝑻𝒉𝒓𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝑾𝒆𝒍𝒍, shares about 𝐊𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐛 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐧 𝐏𝐚𝐲𝐮𝐧𝐠 (𝑲𝑬𝑳𝑰𝑷), a programme to train and empower community members in PPR flats.

About SOLS Health

SOLS Health is a behavioural health centre that connects clients to accessible individual, family and community mental health and nutritional services with an emphasis on combating the stigma of mental health in Malaysia.

SOLS health is a non-profit organisation that provides a range of psychotherapies (eg: CBT, psychodynamic, existential therapy) to our different clients. All therapy is conducted by qualified and registered professionals.

We believe that behavioural health is one of the most critical determinants to physical health, personal wellness and good quality of life.

The above statistics and unfortunate and widespread stigma of mental health in Malaysia is worrying. This stigma is based on ignorance, it culminates in discrimination, and it results in suffering.
