I love seeing fathers involved in births!
Do you know…..your presence matter?

Research shows that the presence of an involved father during pregnancy reduces rates of premature birth and infant mortality. Mothers-to-be with involved fathers are 50% more likely to receive appropriate medical care during pregnancy.

There is so much more to say regarding the importance of a father’s involvement.
As a token of appreciation for your involvement in the well being of your baby’s birth, I’m giving all fathers who sign up our classes a very special gift! 🎁
YES, ONLY FATHERS who contact me get the gift 🎁. Mothers, ask your hubby to contact me ya! I’m taking note of their initiative. 😉

Cheers to all women on this special day!

Always remember that you are given this life because you are strong enough to live it.
You are given your baby because you are strong enough to birth him/her.

“She wasn’t looking for a knight. She was looking for a sword.” –Atticus

A birthing mother needs not someone to save her but to teach and guide her how to birth her baby in a beautiful way.

Happy Women's Day to all the incredible women out there! Hope you have a fabulous day.

Birth is just the way that life is as a whole. One of the ways that is true is in its unpredictability.
Every birth has some surprise (normally a completely unthreatening surprise, and sometimes a delightful surprise). Below are a few examples:
• A mom who gave birth to her second baby two weeks later than she had given birth to her first.
• A baby born with its amniotic sac intact.
• A dad who missed the birth because he was piloting an airplane.
• A baby that an ultrasound said was a boy who turned out to be a girl.
• A 7 lb baby covered in thick vernix born at 43 weeks + 1 day.
• A perfectly healthy and hearty 6 lb baby born at 35 weeks.
• A surprise twin! (Midwife was still en route when mom thought placenta was being born, and it turned out to be another baby).
• A mom who was "complete" for 24 hours before giving birth..
• A first-time mom who labored for only 3 hours.
You're not going to meet a birth professional of any experience who hasn't seen something new this year, and probably even this week.
Life happens! Stay open! And embrace the twist!
Are you ready to meet the plot twist of your birth?

A story that recently happened…
Paula’s baby was “late” as the due date had passed 11 days. Doctor gave her a last call that she will be scheduled a cesarean if her baby does not come after 3 days. The baby was fine and she was fine too. However, the placenta had shown signs of aging and baby’s position was still high up.

Paula was stressed out by the doctor’s warning as she had planned to have a natural birth and she wanted a spontaneous birth. She talked to me over the phone and seemed to had been able to relief her stress after the call. Miraculously, her labour started the next day morning spontaneously. And yes, she had a natural birth. Her baby👶🏻 decided her birthday 🎂 herself 💝

Moral of the story: Once your baby is ready, birth can happen anytime. This is the nature’s way.

The mother was glad that she didn’t need a cesarean. She was patient and relaxed enough to let it happen naturally. How about you?

As I continue to hear story about unnecessary intervention on the progress of natural birth, I cannot help but wonder why do care providers do that?

When the baby is crowning and the mother’s legs are suddenly dikepit together by the doc/midwife….
When the mother is doing fine and all of a sudden her water bag was broken….
When the mother is comfortably requesting to go home to wait for start of labour and her request was brushed off and insisted she is to be admitted…
When the mother is confidently breathing down her baby and the doc insisted that she “push” instead…
When the baby was almost crowning on the way and the mother was sent to Cesarean without medical urgency…
How can this happen in an ongoing smooth labour?

Perhaps the start of an improvement in maternity care starts from parents who are well informed to know when to utilize consumer right. One step at a time. One birth plan at a time. One birth preference request at a time. And hopefully we can change our maternity care to the better.

Feel calm, confident and at ease during pregnancy and labour…

When you give yourself over to the inevitability of birth….
Soar with the powerful waves
Rest in the calm waters…
Surrender to the wild ride…
And accept that birth will take you beyond this world….
What you imagine, it can happen.

It is common for parents to feel obliged to follow the doctor’s instruction a.k.a. advice especially when you feel your doctor knows more than you. So, here comes the importance of childbirth education. A proper informed childbirth preparation will give you the room to contemplate what’s best for you & your baby. After all, a doctor’s advice might not always be what you want or what you truly needed. What’s more, different doctor’s opinion varies.

I once have a mom who was directed to go for a Cesarean birth during her labour in the hospital because of some non-valid reason. Due to her strong feeling that she didn’t need one, she rejected and left the hospital to seek for another doctor in the middle of her labour. She was one very informed mom who had treated her goal for vaginal birth after Cesarean(vbac) very seriously. And of course, she successfully had a natural birth without medication.

Therefore, we have to be clear on our rights to say “no” and the privilege to say “no” comes from a well prepared birth education.

We are always looking for the perfect anesthetic for labour. You name it: gas, injection, epidural, hypnosis, surgery……are there truly an anesthetic which works 100% all the time? Here is a story which can make you ponder…

A midwife was attending a painful birth. The mother had been suffering, truly not coping well with her labor surges. She was discussing about pain medication.

At that moment, the midwife pulled the printed paragraph from her bag and read it to the mother.

Soon after, she noticed that the mother's eyes were closed. She did not open them or move for another two hours.

When she opened her eyes she told the midwife that her baby was about to be born. Within minutes, he was in her arms!

The midwife asked her, "Were you sleeping all that time? What happened!" The mother answered, "No, I wasn't sleeping. I just started thinking one by one about every person I am grateful for, and I stopped feeling the pain."

The mind is perhaps the only perfect anesthetic. They won't always take away the pain, but they can make the pain not matter.
