Kennedy Class II mod 1 — framework design 🦷✨

In distal extension cases, some degree of denture movement is unavoidable due to differences in support between teeth and mucosa 🔄

Under function, the framework rotates around a fulcrum line, which helps identify the primary axis of rotation and guides proper indirect retainer placement to control lifting forces 📐

A palatal strap was selected to provide torus relief, improve stress distribution, and ensure rigid cross-arch stabilization 🧩

The completed Co-Cr framework weighs 12 g, offering predictable strength and stability ⚙️

When patient comfort or weight reduction is indicated,
titanium provides a lighter alternative (~45% weight reduction) due to its lower density — without altering fundamental design principles

Mandibular tooth-supported RPD design 🦷

This case follows a clear, indication-driven approach.
Simple circlet clasps provide controlled retention while minimizing stress on the abutment teeth.

Cingulum rests provide primary vertical support and direct forces along the long axis of the teeth, ensuring predictable stability under function.

A lingual bar was selected to limit tissue coverage while maintaining adequate rigidity and cross-arch stabilization, improving patient comfort and hygiene.

Designed with function, comfort, and longevity in mind.

Why did the patient’s mandibular ridge become flat?!!

Over the past few years, the patient wore a super-heavy cobalt-chrome denture. The excessive load was placed on the alveolar ridge, based on the old belief that heavier dentures provide better stability, which is ❌ wrong.

We realized how incorrect this concept was, and through BPS / SEMCD training, we developed a clearer understanding of the correct clinical approach.
