During her three-week young apprenticeship, Celine—a 15-year-old teenager—surprised us with her independence in carrying out the mini-librarian project we assigned to her, her positive learning attitude, and her ability to reflect with clear and independent thinking.

International schools encourage students to take on early internships during their secondary school years to give them opportunities to experience actual workplaces rather than learning solely from textbooks. Through such exposure, students observe how adults communicate, solve problems, and collaborate. As many secondary students are unsure about their future paths, apprenticeships allow them to “test out” different careers before committing to a college major or long-term direction. Workplace experiences also help students build practical skills that schools alone may not fully teach.

Through Celine’s learning attitude and thoughtful reflections, she reminds us of the passion and learning spirit we had at the beginning when we chose this field.

It was our pleasure to welcome Ms. Tay, an intern from UTAR, Kampar, from January to May this year.

An internship during a student's university years provides real-world experience and hands-on learning, where interns gain practical skills in observation, session planning, behaviour management, communication, and teamwork—skills they cannot fully learn from textbooks. They also receive direct coaching from the team members to help them learn to navigate challenges in an early intervention setting. In addition, they get to experience how a therapy centre operates day-to-day—team collaboration, documentation, communication, and multidisciplinary work.

For us, interns bring fresh perspectives that enrich client support, spark meaningful discussions, and strengthen the quality of services offered to children and families. They also provide valuable additional support that improves session flow and overall productivity.

Having a dedicated and helpful intern adds real value to every team member. Ms. Tay’s willingness to assist, listen, and learn has supported our daily work and created a positive impact on both the children and the staff. We genuinely appreciate the strong learning attitude she demonstrated—her curiosity, initiative, and openness to feedback stood out.

We hope she continues to grow in confidence as she moves forward, and we wish her a bright and fulfilling future ahead. Keep shining and keep learning!

Witnessing the student’s journey with us — from starting one-to-one Speech and Occupational Therapy, to joining the daily Social Play Group, and eventually progressing to kindergarten in the morning and the School Readiness Early Intervention Program in the afternoon — has been a truly valuable and meaningful learning process for everyone on the team.

From his successful toilet training to his growing acceptance of different foods at the center, he has continually amazed us with his steady, step-by-step progress.

It is always heartwarming and uplifting to see him learning to mingle not only with the peers in his EIP class but also with the student our occupational therapist has thoughtfully paired him with.

The understanding and support shown by his parents, along with the consistent communication between the family and our team, have been key factors in his growth. We deeply appreciate and thank the parents for their trust and dedication in ensuring their child’s regular attendance for therapies and classes.

We are also grateful for the cooperation and understanding of the kindergarten teacher, whose collaboration with the parent as the main coordinator has been instrumental in bridging the child’s skills from early intervention to a typical classroom setting.

Learning is a continuous journey — one that flourishes through patience, care, and teamwork.

见证这名学生在我们的陪伴下成长——从最初的一对一语言治疗与职能治疗,到每天参与社交游戏小组,再到如今上午上幼儿园、下午参与入学准备早期干预课程——这段历程对整个团队来说,都是一次富有意义与充满价值的学习旅程。

从成功的如厕训练到在中心逐渐接受更多食物,他总是以稳健的步伐不断带给我们惊喜。看到他不仅能与入学准备班的同学学着互动,还能与由职能治疗师特意配对的学生学着建立社交关系,的确让人倍感欣慰与鼓舞。

家长的理解与支持,以及家长与团队之间保持一致且持续的沟通,是孩子不断进步的关键因素。我们由衷感谢家长对中心的信任与投入,让孩子持续参与治疗与课程。

同时,我们也感谢幼儿园老师的理解与配合——在家长担任主要协调者的情况下,老师的协作能帮助孩子将早期干预中学到的技能衔接到主流课堂中。

学习是一段持续的旅程,需要耐心、关怀与团队的力量。

🌟 About the Role
We’re looking for a dedicated Early Intervention Teacher to join our Bloomkids family in Semenyih.
In this role, you’ll support children through personalised, evidence-based lessons that encourage communication, social skills, cognitive development, and emotional growth.

You’ll be part of a warm, collaborative environment — working closely with families, teachers, and our multidisciplinary team of Speech-Language Therapists and Occupational Therapists.

🧩 Key Responsibilities
✅ Conduct informal assessments to understand each child’s learning needs
✅ Create personalised lesson or intervention plans
✅ Facilitate individual & group sessions using evidence-based strategies
✅ Support children through play-based learning in small groups

Ensuring continuous professional development to enhance service quality has always been our mission.

Both of our early intervention teachers, Ms. Chong and Ms. Ireen attended SMARTER*Phonics training in different batches, led by Dr. Ong and her team. They are now equipped with the skills to help emergent and struggling readers learn to read and spell in English through a systematic, phonics-based, and multi-sensory instructional program.

In addition, our teachers are supported by our experienced speech-language therapist, Ms. Loke in addressing the breakdowns students may encounter.

We aspire to be literacy warriors — even for children with developmental disorders — by proactively providing preventive interventions to strengthen phonological awareness skills in preschoolers with language impairments, supporting their ability to engage in reading (decoding).

#从居家训练到社区融入的整合实践 ——

2025年,《 #当今南特》将聚焦自闭症群体家庭,探讨家长如何在家执行 #家庭康复 计划,以及一系列可行的 #自救策略。五位讲师将从不同专业角度撰写五篇专题文章,并于10月至11月在 #南马特别孩子关怀协会 专页陆续发布。随后,他们将在10月24日起的每个星期五晚上通过 FB Live 与读者进行线上导读与互动交流。

本次专题的重头戏将于11月最后一个星期六(11月29日)实体进行。届时,五位讲师将从各自专业领域深入解析相关议题,数位特殊家庭的家长也将通过分享或工作坊形式,与大众展开更深层次的探讨与交流。我们将于10月24日的第一场【 #当今南特2025】线上导读会上公布以上活动的报名细节。
