Sitting for even short periods of time can be difficult even for adults. Some children move or fidget constantly while sitting at school because this may be the way they learn. For some students once they take their attention off trying to sit still so they can listen and learn they may soon find they have fallen off the chair.

This new review investigated the role that plays in contributing to the developmental plasticity that enables the functional integration of brain and body and proposes frameworks for this association. Two of the mechanisms in which sleep influences sensory neurodevelopment are sleep-dependent molecular signalling (the process of how information between cells in the body are transmitted), and the release of plasticity-promoting neuromodulators.
