Cacatan terawal pengunaan sabun sekitar 4500 tahun dulu adalah berasal dari timur tengah iaitu di bandar purba Girsu sumerian (Iraq) dan Hattusa (Turki). Orang pertama yang menjumpai cara membuat sabun adalah seorang yang dipercayai rakyat kelas bawahan bernama Ninisina yang berkerja di kilang membuat kain di Ur (selatan iraq). Ahli anthropologist menganggap Nina seorang wanita kerana catatan table menyebut tentang textile industry pada masa itu didominasi oleh golongan wanita.

Tapi catatan sejarah kata yg sabun hanya digunakan untuk membasuh kain bukannya badan. Seribu tahun kemudian baru lah wujud catatan tablet baru di Hittite (Bogazkoy, Turki) yang menyebut ttg pengunaan sabun badan.

Awal pengunaan sabun di Tanah Melayu (Malaysia) masih tidak diketahui kesahihannya. Namun dipercayai alam melayu telah lama menyumbang kepada pembuatan sabun dan apotekari dunia arab dan Eropah. Sebutan "sabun" dalam bahasa portugis adalah "sabao" hampir sama dengan bahasa melayu dan arab. Ini jelas membuktikan wujudnya kaitan antara Melaka, Arab dan Portugis dalam perihal sabun.

Seperti yang telah dikatakan diatas, tanah arab adalah tempat penghasilan sabun pertama didunia. Arab datang berdagang di tanah Melayu dan memperolehi bekalan gaharu, cendana dan kapur untuk kegunaan dlm pembuatan sabun. Portugis juga berlayar sepanjang laluan sutera dan singgah di Melaka yang pada ketika itu adalah Hub perdagangan terkenal didunia. Portugis juga membawa balik bekalan gaharu, cendana dan kapur pulang ke eropah. Sebab tu resepi sabun di portugal/spain lebih kurang sama seperti di Arab. Sabun Aleppo(arab) dan sabun Castille (spain).

Masih ingat sabun kakaktua hijau famous kat malaysia zaman 80-90an dulu? Teringat zaman kecik dulu mandi pakai sabun legend parrot botanical tu. Itu sabun import dari Thailand.

As this year is ending, I wish all the negativity and difficulties also end with this year. I had gone to hospital numerous times this year. First, mom diagnosed with breast cancer, beloved dad passed away in CCU, father in law underwent 6 cycle chemotheraphy, and me myself admitted to emergency ward (silly). Fuhh, really hope there is no more after this. Aamin.

This year has been many things, but let's not forget the good. For example, this is my first year involve in soap making! Soo much fun! I'm never more joyful than when I'm fully engaged in struggling out a challenging swirl technique 😂.... making something with my hands. Looking forward to new and creative soaping ideas in the year coming up.

Salam and have barakah friday everyone! Back to our Friday ritual, it is a day!

Last week, I've have tried new pigments in cold processed soap making and surprisingly discovered a magic moment of color changing from dark purple to bright red.
