Semporna, Sabah is known for its pristine beaches and is a well-known tourist destination. The place is also teeming with immigrants and undocumented people, mostly children. Many of them live on the streets, begging for food.

With this background, a Food Aid program was launched on 10th March in one of the busy streets of the town. Led by Ms Nicolyn Wellin, a Health Promoter assigned in Semporna, she collaborated with the government and was given a permit to regularly distribute food for these street children. A total of 40+ kids were given priority during the launching. This will be an ongoing project by the Eight Treasures-Sabah chapter.

A village in Roban, Sarawak -around 4 hours drive north of Kuching -was a recipient of a Health prevention program through lifestyle check, counseling and health lectures on Sunday, 1st March. The event was held in a Longhouse which also served as home of many Adventists. The event was led by Sarawak Eight Treasures Director, Mr. Ladin Suja, Health Promoter Mdm. Noriza Kuet and Dr. Jane Yap as guest. Surprisingly, many of the adult participants have excellent cholesterol readings which maybe attributed to their diet of high fiber, low fat diet as most of their food are freely found in the forest, jungle and their rivers. The participants were delighted to learn many new things regarding taking care of their health. The Q&A session led to many discoveries.

We started the year at our workplace with kicking off a plant-based diet. It included 3 days of fruit and vegetable juicing/smoothie followed by 7 days of transition diet of fruits, vegetables, complex carbohydrates and legumes with no or limited sugar, salt and processed food. Almost 2/3 of the office staff participated and most of them reported positive changes in their physical and mental well being. What a refreshing start of the new year 2026!
