Does Air Quality Increase the Risk of Tuberculosis in Malaysia?

As of 7 February 2026, 10 active tuberculosis (TB) clusters have been reported across Malaysia, including cases in Johor, Selangor, Kedah, Kelantan, Pahang, Perlis and Sabah. This indicates that TB remains a serious public health concern.

The discussion is no longer only about infection.
It is also about environmental exposure.

The World Health Organization (WHO) states that high emissions of harmful pollutants such as particulate matter (PM) and carbon monoxide (CO) increase the risk of diseases, including tuberculosis. This highlights the growing relevance of air quality in understanding long-term respiratory and infectious disease risks.

Globally, awareness is increasing. In Romania, WHO supported a public mural titled “Tuberculosis & Pollution” to emphasize the link between polluted air and lung health, a reminder that environmental factors play a critical role in disease prevention.

Clean air is not just an environmental issue.
It is a public health priority.

Perbincangan kini bukan lagi hanya mengenai jangkitan.
Ia juga berkaitan dengan pendedahan terhadap persekitaran.

Menurut Pertubuhan Kesihatan Sedunia (WHO), pelepasan tinggi bahan pencemar berbahaya seperti bahan zarah halus (PM) dan karbon monoksida (CO) meningkatkan risiko penyakit, termasuk tuberkulosis.

Udara bersih bukan sekadar isu alam sekitar.
Ia adalah keutamaan kesihatan awam.

Air pollution can affect anyone. It silently harms us at every stage of life, from pregnancy to old age.

Scientific evidence reviewed by the World Health Organization (WHO) shows that air pollution increases the risk of:

• Preterm birth and low birth weight
• Childhood pneumonia and asthma
• Heart disease, stroke, and lung cancer
• Reduced lung function and chronic respiratory disease

The evidence is clear: polluted air increases disease risk across generations.

EVERYONE CAN DO CHARITY... RM10 A MONTH ONLY TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN RURAL SCHOOL CHILDREN LIFE

Everyone would like to go to school so that one could change or improvised current life and family well being. But not everyone could afford a fully finished school or even to attend school. This situation normally happens to rural children where education comes second to other priorities set by the meager earning parents. Sometimes poor school facilities dampened the ambitions of most parents or children. Since going to school with poor facilities is no better than staying at home, helping the parents so they will choose the later. SWO plans to change this situation, cause in SWO we believe in equal rights to learn and change individual lives. SWO believes that correct values must be learnt from school. Therefore school environment and must be properly by maintaining hygiene and make sure the environment provided are totally different from home.
