Australasia: ~ –0.67 D
Europe: ~ –1.00 D

Globally, clinicians typically begin myopia management once a child reaches around –1.00 D, with some regions starting earlier at ~ –0.75 D.

📌 Early action matters. Myopia management is about slowing progression, not just correcting vision.

Myopia (short-sightedness) in children is increasing worldwide and eye care professionals are responding more actively than ever.
🥇 Most effective treatments (as perceived by practitioners)
Combination therapy and orthokeratology are rated the most effective, followed by approved myopia control spectacles and contact lenses.

• 👓 Single-vision glasses are still common but declining
Although still widely prescribed, the use of single-vision lenses has significantly reduced since 2015 as awareness of myopia control improves.

• 💊 Atropine use is evolving
Lower-dose atropine (0.01%–0.05%) is preferred and is now prescribed at younger ages compared to a decade ago.

• 🚫 Undercorrection is falling out of favour
Over 80% of practitioners no longer use under-correction, reflecting strong evidence that it is ineffective for myopia control.

Tips to take care of your eyes:
1. Viewing at distances of less than 20 cm for up to 2 hours daily should be avoided due to the associated increased risk of myopia.
2. Increased outdoor time during childhood has been associated with a reduced risk of myopia.
3. A minimum 10-minute break should be taken after every 40 minutes of near work.

眼健康保健建议：

Case Study: Mild Non-Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy
Age / S*x: 36-year-old male
Medical history: Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (diagnosed >4 years)
Hypertension
Ocular history: No previous ocular disease reported

Assessment
Right eye: No apparent diabetic retinopathy
Left eye: suggestive of Mild non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy (NPDR)

Management
1.Patient advised on the importance of optimal glycaemic and blood pressure control.
2.Routine monitoring recommended. (Refer to eye doctor if worsening or patient never seen eye doctor before.)
3.Review in 9–12 months, earlier if visual symptoms develop.

This suggests that ECPs are not just educators, but trusted authorities whose recommendations directly guide parental acceptance and implementation of control strategies.

1.Visual Acuity
Right Eye: 6/60 unaided → 6/9 corrected
Left Eye: 6/60 unaided → 6/9 corrected

2.Intraocular Pressure
RE: 18 mmHg
LE: 18 mmHg

3.Key Findings
a.Bilateral cataract
b.Hazy fundus view, likely due to cataract
c.High cup-to-disc ratio (CDR) in both eyes
→ Glaucoma suspect

4.Management Plan
Refer for cataract surgery evaluation and Full glaucoma assessment.

Summary
This 76-year-old female presented with bilateral cataracts and a high cup–disc ratio, raising suspicion of glaucoma. While vision improved with correction, the hazy fundus view limited accurate optic nerve assessment. Normal IOP does not exclude glaucoma, especially in elderly patients. The patient requires cataract surgery evaluation and a comprehensive glaucoma work-up to confirm diagnosis and prevent potential progression to irreversible optic nerve damage.

这位76岁的女性患者同时存在双眼白内障，并在检查中发现视杯/视盘比增大，提示可能患有青光眼。虽然矫正视力有所改善，但由于白内障导致眼底影像模糊，视神经的评估受到限制。正常眼压并不能排除青光眼，尤其是在老年患者中。患者需要接受白内障手术的评估，并进行全面的青光眼检查，以确认诊断并预防视神经进一步受损。
