Urology UPM has led the introduction of MRI-targeted transperineal biopsy in Malaysia, and we are the first centre and one of the highest volume in the country to perform MRI-US fusion transperineal prostate biopsy under local anaesthesia.

With the maturation of our diagnostic services using MRI-targeted and mapping biopsy, right now, we are ready to embark into the realm of 'prostate-sparing' treatment, also known as focal therapy, mainly for localized medium-risk prostate cancer, aiming to keep treatment side effects to a bare minimum. With international collaboration and knowledge sharing with the Chinese University of Hong Kong (Associate Prof Peter Ka-Fung Chiu), we aim to become part of this field's knowledge generator and the regional expert in focal therapy.
