Kutty story 4 🧡

It’s been a busy week…
Sitting with many cases, especially those related to marriage and relationships.
One thing that keeps coming up again and again is this ..betrayal.
I truly understand that transparency in a relationship is not always easy, but it is essential.
From the very beginning, honesty matters. Sharing openly, even when it’s uncomfortable, is always better than hiding.
Lately, I’ve been hearing many stories of partners discovering affairs.
And often, the reasons given sound similar:
“I’m not happy…”
“We have communication problems…”
“My partner nags…”
“I’m not satisfied emotionally or sexually…”

These struggles are real, yes.
But betrayal is still a choice.

If a relationship is hurting, talk about it. Seek help. Work through it.
And if the relationship truly cannot be repaired, then have the courage to end it respectfully and legally first.
Don’t start a new chapter by breaking someone else’s heart.
Let’s choose honesty. Let’s choose accountability.
Let’s choose to do things the right way, even when it’s hard.

When we have a headache, we go to the clinic. The doctor may give painkillers to ease the pain. If the pain continues, the doctor will investigate further.

Mental health is similar — but also very different.
Many people only seek help when the pain inside becomes too heavy to carry. Sometimes that pain has been building for months or even years.
So when someone walks into a counselling session, they are not just bringing a problem from today — they are bringing layers of emotions, experiences, and unresolved pain.
As counsellors, our role is not to give instant answers or quick fixes.
We need time to:
• Build trust
• Understand the deeper issue
• Explore emotions safely
• Plan suitable interventions
• Support the healing journey
This process cannot be completed in one or two hours.
Some days, I listen to 2–3 different life stories, each filled with pain, hope, and courage. And sometimes the hardest thing to say is:
"Healing takes time."
If you are coming for a session expecting a solution in one meeting, I’m sorry — counselling is not magic.
But it is a powerful process when both counsellor and client are committed.
Healing requires:

✨ Honesty
✨ Patience
✨ Willingness to work through the process

Kutty story!
Some people seek counselling quietly.
Not because they are weak.
Not because they are “crazy.”
But because they are overwhelmed.
Today I had an outdoor session (client’s request due to distance and time). She came with work stress and family stress. She was looking forward to the session.
But something happened.
Before the session, she informed her husband. He wasn’t happy. He questioned why she needed therapy. He even suggested she should see “someone he knows” instead.
During the session, he kept calling her.
Video calls.
Repeatedly.
Asking her to show where she was.
She had already told him the location.
But it wasn’t enough.
The calls became frequent.
Her breathing changed.
Her hands started shaking.
She went into panic.
We had to stop the session for her safety and emotional stability.
He even showed up at the venue.
Let this be an awareness:
🚩 When someone is afraid of you seeking help.
🚩 When someone insists on monitoring you.
🚩 When privacy feels like a threat to them.
🚩 When support is questioned instead of encouraged.
Counselling is a safe, confidential space.
No partner should feel threatened by healing.
Seeking therapy is not betrayal.
It is self-care.
If you feel controlled, constantly monitored, or unsafe when trying to get help — that itself is something worth exploring.
You deserve emotional safety. 🤍

Emotional Regulation for Adults

Because being “strong” doesn’t mean suppressing your feelings.
Many adults were never taught how to manage emotions — only how to hide them.
We were told: “Don’t cry.”
“Be strong.”
“Move on.”
But unprocessed emotions don’t disappear.
They stay in the body. They show up as stress, anxiety, irritability, or shutdown.
Emotional regulation is the ability to feel without being overwhelmed…
to respond instead of react.

Practical Tips to Regulate Emotions

1️⃣ Pause Before You Respond
When triggered, give yourself 10–30 seconds.
Breathe. Let your nervous system settle before speaking.

2️⃣ Name the Emotion
Instead of “I’m fine,” try:
I feel disappointed.
I feel anxious.
I feel unappreciated.
Naming emotions reduces their intensity.

3️⃣ Regulate Through the Body
Emotions live in the body.
Try:
Slow breathing (inhale 4, exhale 6)
Grounding (feel your feet on the floor)
Gentle stretching
Cold water on wrists or face

4️⃣ Validate Yourself
Say internally: “It makes sense that I feel this way.”
Self-validation calms emotional escalation.

5️⃣ Identify Your Need
Behind every strong emotion is a need:
Rest
Reassurance
Boundaries
Support
Space
Ask: What do I need right now?

6️⃣ Delay Important Decisions
Never make major decisions in a heightened emotional state.
Regulate first. Decide later.

Regulation is not suppression.
It is not toxic positivity.
It is not pretending everything is okay.
It is the ability to sit with your emotions without letting them control you.
And this is a skill — not a personality trait.
It can be learned. It can be strengthened.
