About Ms.Nava - Founder of Nava's Zen
Ms. Nava Krishnan's story is truly inspiring. From starting her working life at a young age to becoming a senior lecturer, she has accomplished a lot in her career. However, her journey has not been without challenges. Health issues, the loss of loved ones, and personal struggles have all tested her resilience. But through it all, she has found solace in yoga, which has helped her rebuild her life and conquer her challenges.

Ms. Nava's story is a testament to the power of perseverance and determination. She has overcome obstacles and taken control of her life, even when things seemed impossible. As the founder of Nava's Zen, she brings her expertise and qualifications in yoga and wellness to help others find their own path to inner peace and well-being.

"Nasi Ulam Ikan Bakar, Jalan Kebun, Shah Alam"
Another food trip to Nasi Ulam Ikan Bakar, much earlier at 11am to beat the lunch time crowd.

Their specialty indeed is the various types of ikan bakar, whether the sambal type or the plain grilled version, paired with three to four types of spicy dips.

Alongside the usual lunch spread, there are also various types of dishes, and the ulam (raw salads) worth mentioning.

Our pick:
Bawal hitam sambal grilled
Prepacked boiled fish, steamed vegetables, quail eggs & chilli dip
Rice, masak lemak telur/egg coconut milk stew & vegetable/petula stew
Rice, masak lemak telur/egg coconut milk stew & kerabu kacang botol/winged beans salad

Water is free of charge.

Overall, a worthy traditional Malay meal (RM42.00) in a traditional setup. It definitely feels like a back to kampung/village style food delight.

A long-standing spot that stays consistently busy, especially during breakfast and brunch, even on working days. The menu has a wide variety of dishes.

Their curry mee is particularly worth trying, with different topping options. The one with steamed chicken and cockles (RM11.00) was satisfying and flavourful, with a curry that stands out.

Apart from freshly prepared dishes, there are also ready-to-go items such as packet nasi lemak, noodles, and a variety of sweet and savoury kuih-muih. Another popular choice is the Hainanese toast, served with butter and kaya.

The red bean and coconut milk drink, served in a tall glass, is not overly sweet and makes for a pleasant addition.

Wellness Workshop – Monash University, School of Business (Admin)

Stepping into an educational institution after 12 years brought back many meaningful memories. It also reminded me of an unexpected turn in life.

After a 22-year career as a Senior Lecturer, due to my own personal health reasons, it led me into the health and wellness industry and business.

At 58, I started Nava’s Zen. It was not planned, but something that unfolded over time.

At 62, last week, I conducted a small group wellness session for staff at the School of Business, Monash University.

The session was intentionally not slide-based or lecture-style. Instead, it was informal and relaxed.

It began with simple conversations on stress management, boundaries, and self-care. This was followed by breathwork, chair-based stretching, and a low-impact Zumba session. It concluded with discussion and sharing on wellness, followed by lunch.

A very different experience compared to slide-based, note-taking, lecture-style wellness workshops.

This is a reminder for all of us in our 60s, our prime age. We can grow and shine even after our 60s, regardless of what life brings.

Most importantly, it is about taking care of our health, energy, and strength, and looking good in our own way.

“Buncis Goreng Tempeh/French Beans Tempeh Stir Fry”
Simplicity yet truly a Malaysian delight.

Let’s Cook
Dice tempeh into small pieces.
Lightly fry in oil, remove & set aside.

In the same oil, add smashed garlic and sliced beans.
Cook & fry to a texture preferred (pour water if needed to soften beans)

Add fried tempeh, salt & fresh or dried bay leaves/daun salam.
Stir to combine in & off the heat.
