𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗲𝗱 - 𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺𝘀, 𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁𝘀, 𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗔𝘀𝗶𝗮 𝗣𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰

Our ECRI Asia Pacific Kick-Off meeting took us to Melaka this year — bringing teams together from across functions to align on what we have delivered, what we have learned and how we move forward as a region.

As we support healthcare organizations across Asia Pacific, alignment matters. These conversations help ensure we are consistent in how we think, how we work, and how we serve our clients – while staying responsive to the different realities across markets.
We also recognized colleagues for long service, stepping up during transition periods, and contributing to our monthly sharing sessions that keep us updated with evolving healthcare industry trends.

We ended the trip with a walking tour through Melaka, a place shaped by regional exchange and collaboration, a fitting reminder of the value of shared understanding as we continue to grow our work across APAC.

We are starting the year aligned, energized, and focused – with a new consulting services on the horizon. Stay tuned.

It was a pleasure to be invited to Universiti Malaya by Biomedical Engineering Student Club University of Malaya, sharing insights on Designing for Care: Biomedical Engineering in hospital Planning & Setup.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗯𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸?

For us it’s the sports & recreational activities - month after month. At the start of the year, colleagues were split into different house colors, forming cross-department teams and creating opportunities to connect, collaborate and strategize our way to victory. Along the way, we discovered hidden talents; some were excellent on the badminton court, while others were great at creativity during the mocktail challenge.

The year kicked off strong with Red Raptors leading the scoreboard after board games. But… that was before being overtaken by Power O’rangers who dominated the bowling session and climbed to the top. A special mention to Blue-Nanas for winning the mocktail challenge, and to Gold & Glory for their consistent participation throughout the year!

As the Sports & Recreational Committee signs off for 2025, we’re proud of what this first year has achieved and excited to see what the 2026 committee has in store!

We are honored to formalize a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between ECRI Asia Pacific, Jantung HarKit (National Heart Centre Harapan Kita) and BPFK Jakarta, Balai Pengamanan Alat dan Fasilitas Kesehatan Jakarta (Jakarta Center for Safety of Medical Devices and Facilities). This MoU represents a nationally significant step in strengthening biomedical engineering (BME) standards aligned with global best practices.

With the support of Kementerian Kesehatan RI (Ministry of Health Indonesia), this collaboration aims to establish a scalable national framework – strengthening medical device safety, facility reliability and technical governance across healthcare facilities. Beginning with one of Indonesia’s flagship national heart centers, it lays the foundation for broader adoption across the healthcare ecosystem.

ECRI Asia Pacific is proud to contribute our global expertise to support a safer, more resilient and sustainable healthcare system for Indonesia.

Over the past four episodes on BFM Radio - The Business Station, we explored patient safety through different but deeply connected lenses. From the financial burden of unsafe care, the pressures faced by healthcare workers, the role of regulatory safeguards, and finally, the lived experiences of patients.

In this concluding episode, we ask an important and often uncomfortable question: What happens after a patient has been exposed to unsafe care, and has suffered an injury or complication? In the final episode of the series on patient safety, we explore what are patients’ right after a medical error, and what patients and their caregivers can do.

ECRI Asia Pacific and BPAFK Jakarta held discussions with Indonesia’s National Heart Center, Jantung HarKit, to explore potential areas of collaboration that support shared goals in strengthening healthcare delivery and quality improvement.

The alignment in priorities and enthusiasm shown by all parties made this conversation an encouraging start.

Medical devices save lives. Picture the X-ray machine that detects your disease, the ventilator that supports your breathing, or the pacemaker that keeps your heart beating. However, when something goes wrong with these devices, the consequences can be deadly. How do we ensure that the medical devices used in healthcare go through a rigorous regulatory process to be safe for use?

In the third episode of the mini-series on patient safety, we look at how Malaysia evaluates new health technologies, and regulates the maintenance of medical devices, equipment and facilities.
