A basic explanation of what heart disease is and why it happens?

Heart disease, also known as cardiovascular disease, refers to conditions that affect the heart and blood vessels. There are many types of heart and blood vessel problems.
The most common type is coronary artery disease (CAD), which involves the buildup of fatty deposits (plaque) on the inner walls of the arteries that supply the heart. This buildup narrows the arteries, reduces blood flow, and increases the risk of blood clots. If a plaque deposit ruptures, it can trigger a blood clot that may lead to a heart attack or stroke.

Other forms of heart disease include:
๐Ÿ‘‰Heart failure โ€“ when the heart becomes weak and can no longer pump blood effectively. This is usually caused by CAD, long-term high blood pressure, or previous heart attacks.
๐Ÿ‘‰Heart valve disease โ€“ when the heartโ€™s valves fail to open and close properly, often due to congenital defects, infections such as rheumatic fever, or age-related changes.
๐Ÿ‘‰Arrhythmias โ€“ irregular heartbeats, where the heart beats too fast, too slow, or unevenly. These are often linked to CAD, stress, electrolyte imbalances, or stimulant use.
๐Ÿ‘‰Cardiomyopathy โ€“ a disease of the heart muscle that makes it enlarged, thick, or stiff. It can be inherited or caused by high blood pressure, viral infections, alcohol abuse, or heart attacks.

When we encounter stressors, our body activates the fight-or-flight response, releasing stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline. These hormones create various effects in the body that, over time, may contribute to heart problems.
While this stress response was useful in the past for dealing with real physical threats, the โ€œthreatsโ€ we face today are often psychological and do not require the same physical reactions.

The 2024 Annual Meeting of the Cardiovascular Disease Prevention and Rehabilitation Professional Committee of the Inner Mongolia Rehabilitation Medicine Association and the Cardiac Rehabilitation Training Course

The "2024 Annual Meeting of the Cardiovascular Disease Prevention and Rehabilitation Committee" and the "National Training Course on Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy for General Hospitals" were held in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia. Organized by the Inner Mongolia Rehabilitation Medicine Association and hosted by the Inner Mongolia People's Hospital and Life Care Association, the event featured several key presentations.
We have Guo Qi from Shanghai University of Medicine & Health Sciences discussed on the diagnosis and treatment of sarcopenia, while Shao Lili from Handan First Hospital shared insights on diagnosing and treating syncope. Also, Zhao Wei from Peking University Third Hospital explored exercise testing and prescriptions for various diseases, and Wu Jiahui from Anzhen Hospital covered the six-minute walk test and its role in cardiac rehabilitation.

The cardiac rehabilitation training enhanced the professional skills of medical staff, enabling them to guide patients' recovery more effectively, it also helped cultivate specialized talent and promote the development of the cardiac rehabilitation field in Inner Mongolia.
