Shoulder pain is one of the most common complaints I see in clinic, affecting both young and older active adults alike.
A frequent culprit? The Supraspinatus muscle tendon (Rotator Cuff), which accounts for 2/3 of all shoulder pain. Tendon tears are more commonly seen in younger individuals, whereas chronic degenerative changes tend to occur more frequently in the older population.
The supraspinatus is part of your rotator cuff and plays a key role in lifting your arm. When the tendon becomes overloaded, degenerates, or partially tears, you may experience:
🔹 Pain when lifting the arm
🔹 Night pain (especially when lying on the affected side)
🔹 Weakness with overhead movements
🔹 Painful arc between 60–120° of abduction
While physiotherapy remains the foundation of treatment, some patients with persistent pain may benefit from regenerative injection therapies.
💉 Ultrasound-guided injections allow precise delivery of treatment directly into the damaged tendon.
Two common options:
🩸 Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)
Concentrated platelets from your own blood are injected into the tear to stimulate healing and tendon regeneration.
🌿 Prolotherapy
A regenerative solution is injected to trigger the body’s natural healing response and strengthen weakened tendon tissue.
Both treatments aim to:
✔ Reduce pain
✔ Promote tissue healing
✔ Improve shoulder function
Early diagnosis and targeted treatment make a difference. If shoulder pain is limiting your sleep, sports, or daily activities, don’t ignore it. Your shoulder deserves proper assessment, not just painkillers.
