Contact lens ni nampak macam benda kecil. Tapi bila kita ambil mudah, mata yang kena bayar harga.

Ini 3 ayat yang selalu buat orang salah faham.

1. “Tak apa, kejap je.”
Masalahnya, mata tak kira “kejap”. Bila lens dipakai lebih lama daripada waktu yang sepatutnya, oksigen ke kornea berkurang. Mata jadi kering, pedih, merah, dan lebih mudah iritasi.

2. “Saya dah biasa, tak rasa sakit pun.”
Mata boleh jadi kebas pada rasa pedih bila anda selalu paksa. Itu bukan tanda selamat. Itu tanda anda dah terbiasa dengan iritasi. Dan bila jangkitan datang, ia boleh jadi cepat dan serius.

3. “Saya cuci dengan air biasa je, bersih juga.”
Air paip bukan larutan pembersih lens. Ia boleh bawa kuman yang anda tak nampak. Ini antara punca keradangan dan jangkitan mata yang orang selalu tak sangka.

Kalau anda pakai lens, cuba pegang 4 perkara ni:
Pastikan tangan bersih sebelum sentuh lens.
Jangan tidur dengan lens kecuali memang jenis yang dibenarkan dan anda sudah dapat nasihat profesional.
Guna larutan lens yang betul dan tukar ikut jadual.
Kalau mata merah, pedih, sensitif cahaya, berair sangat, atau penglihatan kabur, hentikan pakai lens dan dapatkan pemeriksaan.

Cuba anda kelip mata anda sekarang.
Rasa kesat tak? Rasa pedih atau macam ada pasir halus di dalam kelopak mata?

Kalau jawapannya ya, mata anda sedang menjerit minta tolong.

Sekarang dah pukul 10 pagi. Maksudnya mungkin dah hampir dua jam mata anda terpaku merenung skrin komputer atau telefon tanpa henti.

Tahukah anda, secara fitrahnya manusia akan berkelip sebanyak 15 kali seminit. Kelipan ini penting macam "wiper" kereta, ia menyapu air mata untuk melembapkan kornea. Tapi bila kita fokus tengok skrin, otak kita akan lupa untuk berkelip. Kadar kelipan jatuh mendadak kepada hanya 5 kali seminit.

Akibatnya, lapisan air mata akan kering (evaporate). Mata jadi merah, penglihatan jadi kabur, dan kepala mula rasa berdenyut. Ini adalah gejala Computer Vision Syndrome.

Jangan biarkan sampai power cermin mata anda naik mendadak. Ada satu teknik mudah yang dicipta oleh pakar mata dunia untuk selamatkan mata anda sekarang.

Nama teknik ini ialah Peraturan 20-20-20.

Caranya sangat mudah.
Setiap 20 minit anda menengok skrin, anda wajib berhenti sekejap.
Palingkan muka anda dan tengok objek yang berada sejauh 20 kaki (sekitar 6 meter).
Tenung objek itu selama 20 saat.

Kenapa kena buat macam ni?
Sebab otot mata kita bekerja keras bila fokus benda dekat. Bila kita tengok objek jauh (seperti pokok di luar tingkap atau jam di dinding hujung ofis), otot mata akan kembali rehat dan relaks.

Jadi sekarang, berhenti baca post ini sekejap.
Pandang kawan ofis yang duduk jauh tu atau pandang tingkap selama 20 saat.
Bagi mata anda bernafas semula.
